9-Year-Old Foils Carjacking Attempt

M_stolen.jpg
Imagine the horror of the would-be carjacker who hopped into a choice vehicle left running on 106th Street near the Van Wyck Expressway in Queens this morning and drove off (so easy!), only to realize that there was a 9-year-old boy in the car. Cursed tinted windows! Not to worry, this story ends happily, as the New York Post reports.

Fortunately for the boy, the father had not only left his car idling but had also left his cell phone in the car. When the dad called, the thief picked up (having noticed the errant child by that point), gave the phone to the kid to direct his dad to the location, and then left the boy, unharmed, in the car and fled.

Police are still looking for the suspect, who is probably beating himself up for his lack of due diligence before grabbing the nearest car and taking off. Silly thief.

Note to father/son: This is the stuff memoirs and movie plots are made of. But, Dad, maybe don't leave the kid in the car with it idling again?
