Central Park Stats: Tourists Have Yet to Take Over
New data from the Central Park Conservancy provides way more statistics about Manhattan's greenest section than you might've ever thought imaginable, including the fact that it's still dominated by locals: almost 70 percent of Central Park's visitors are from around here. The Report on the Public Use of Central Park is called "the most ambitious and comprehensive scientific survey of visitor use in the Park's 150-year history," and can be downloaded in full here. Counting nearly 37 million visits a year, the park is busiest between 2 and 4 p.m., in July and August, and on the south side (27.4 million) as opposed to the north (9.1 million).
