Michelle Anglin and Kollen Robinson, Off Duty Cops, Guilty In Attack On Bronx Motorist
A Bronx jury has found two police officers guilty for their role in the assault of two men during a traffic dispute, Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson says.
The officers, Michelle Anglin, 40, and Kollen Robinson, 27, were found guilty of official misconduct. They face up to a year in jail for the misdemeanor. The jury will now consider a second-degree felony assault charge, which carries a sentence of up to seven years.
Johnson says the clash took place at East 218th Street and White Plains Road in August, 2008. Anglin and Robinson were off-duty, and apparently thought that motorist Marlon Smith had left his car door open, impeding their progress.
They got out of the car and confronted Smith, and things turned violent. Smith was pistol-whipped and struck repeatedly with a police nightstick. A passerby, Cyle Perry-Osby, 30, tried to intervene and he was beaten as well.
Anglin and Robinson then fled the scene without calling for an ambulance and tried to cover up the incident by not reporting it to their bosses.
Smith received 25 staples to close three gashes on his head, and sustained heavy bruising, swelling to his upper extremities. Perry-Osby also was struck in the head and now suffers from migraine headaches.
