NYPD Ticket Fixing Scandal: Precinct Boss Orders Underling To Deep-Six Summons
An NYPD boss penned a memo on his own department letterhead ordering a subordinate to deep-six a traffic violation, the New York Post is reporting.
Deputy Inspector Wayne Bax,, assigned to the 52nd Precinct, gave the order to a lieutenant, who then told the officer who wrote the ticket that "it would be in his best interest" to get rid it, the Post says.
The disclosure indicates that the practice of ticket-fixing--now the subject of a Bronx Grand Jury investigation--extends from lowly cops to high ranking brass.
Hundreds of police officers could face disciplinary charges for ticket fixing, and some of them may also face criminal charges in the mushrooming scandal.
Bax's order was discovered by Internal Affairs when the officer who wrote the ticket complained to another officer, who happened to be under IAB surveillance, the Post says.
And what became of the ticket? A traffic court judge ordered the motorist to pay the fine for an illegal left turn.
