Dr. Seuss Book of 'Lost Stories' Is Happening!

Some exciting news for fans of the late Theodor Geisel, or, as you probably know him, Dr. Seuss: Random House is publishing seven of his "rarely seen" works, which appeared in Redbook between 1948 and 1959, into a hard-cover collection called The Bippolo Seed and Other Lost Stories. Apparently Charles D. Cohen, "a Seuss expert," had been selling the magazine tearsheets on eBay, and Dr. Seuss's art director, Cathy Goldsmith, stumbled upon them. The two got in touch, and then met with Random House VP and publisher Kate Klimo to discuss a collaboration.

The book will include stories titled "Gustav the Goldfish," Steak for Supper," "Tadd and Todd," and more, and will be out in September (you can pre-order on Amazon). Per the product review, "Cohen traces the history of these stories, which demonstrate an intentional and significant change that led to the writing style we associate with Dr. Seuss today."

Based on synopsis alone, we are most looking forward to "The Bear, the Rabbit, and the Zinniga-Zanniga," described as "about a rabbit who is saved from a bear with a single eyelash." That's pretty much exactly the writing style we associate with (and love about) Dr. Seuss today.
