This Is How the TSA Pats Down a 6-Year-Old Girl

• We shold use intellegent profiling. Profiling works, yet people like you always have to make it about race....why is EVERYthing in this country about race....get over yourselves. Racisim still exisits because people wont let it go always this fighting and anger over something that mabye 1% have actually endured. Races become isolated because they cling to someone elses memory and project it on those around them. I dont feel sorry for you because your a minority, i dont feel sorry for you because you live in the ghetto, those terms and ideas exisits because people feel comfort in them they CHOOSE to identify with them. I chose to be family oriented and to educate myself rather then identify with the squaller and violence I come from. Everyone is there own person some have it much harder then others but its NOT because of the color of your skin its because of your mindset

To this day it amazes me that liberties are denied to the whole due to the small sect of radical daft fools, congratulations on allowing them to speard opression wich is part of the ultimate goal. • and, as an afterthought, there seems to be some confusion as to the cause of the "groping". The reason for the "molestation" was because she set off an alarm, not because she was six. The TSA agent probably went on to do the exact same procedure to mamy more people who wern't all white, six, and female!

I really think people have to cut the parranoia and realize what happened; someone set off a scanner; this was what they do as a safty mesure. If i had a child, and if ihad malicious pretences, i could easily hide a few knives on a child. if there are ways around security mesures, there are people who will find ways to exploit those holes. everyone makes a big deal about "this is because we don't want to offend a few people" but At the same time you want to cause a big loophole because you are offended.

• If I ever had to worry about being patted down by a TSA agent this would be why. If someone tried to touch me like that I would tense up and tell them just how uncomfortable I felt and tell them that they are being seen as rapists and perverts. No one has a right to touch a little girl on her groin or stick their hands anywhere close to her chest. I'm a teenager and would tell them just what I think of them.

It probably doesn't surprise anyone outside America that people, including young ones, can get hold of guns in the USA if they really want to. Not being religious, I think this life is all I've got, so I want to hang on to this one for as long as possible. But I admit, security doesn't generally get in the way of my daily life (I only fly say 5 times a year), especially now they don't make you take off your shoes. What irritates me is having to walk backwards and forwards 300 yards around the tape trails when there's no-one else in the queue and its only 4 yards as the crow flies to the (security) check (-in) counter! And I'd like to know how many bombs have been built into laptop computers that requires them to be separated for the X-ray machine.

One that justifies you being so critical (contemptuous) of the TSA lady's (and her colleague's, also helping to get you in one piece from A to B) choice.

HOWEVER liberal cry babies think that profiling for behavior is the same as racial profiling and it is the non-law enforcement trained individual who believes they have all the answers. Liberals believe that pat searching a 6 year old makes airplanes safer. Cops can carry guns on planes but they can't carry knives! TSA policy!! You go through security and get your tweezers taken away but then you can go to TGI fridays and get a steak knife!! TSA and other Gov employees have college schooling in management, arts, english and whatnot but rarely do they have the experience of a state patrol or street cop to distinguish the difference between the letter of the law versus spirit of the law. Without ever having to put it into use where daily, the feds have a lot of theory w/ no practice which results in the BS seen here. Every terrorist that has blown up a plane in the last 20 years has been an adult male, 16-30 years of age. Up until recently the muslims have used males as their agents but recently several years ago a group to include females took a school hostage in the former russia and in the name of jihad, killed a bunch of school kids.

• The motivation for a terrorist to blow up half a dozen people in a movie theatre is, I suggest, less than that to bring down a plane. I'll take THAT risk.

• Chris, the TSA may be protecting us from "terrorism" but this is about how everybody is assumed to be a "terrorist". Sure, there are metal detectors and X-Ray scans but that hasn't stopped them from profiling mostly everybody as a potential terrorist. Even after you walked through their metal detectors and their scans, they still think you're a terrorist and they'll think you're a terrorist until their hunch is proven wrong. Hell, you say that if I don't like what the TSA is doing then I shouldn't fly. Good idea! Except for the fact that there is security everywhere. I'm guessing you haven't seen the extent of the policing that goes on. Hell even at every kind of school there's security. I shouldn't have to worry if I'm a child predator if I'm a father of a child, I shouldn't have to worry at all. I'm different and it's harder for differently able people to make it in the grand United States of America. Just because they're making everything safe does not make it justified, if anything all this additional security is just making todays kids more paranoid and more likely to do very stupid things, and all because the kids who committed the Columbine shooting were treated badly and nothing was done about it. In short. Sure, I'll feel safe when I board a flight but this doesn't make this excessive security in the US acceptable.

• I've been pulled out of line and forced to miss my flight because of profiling. I was in a business suit, but because I am African American and was traveling to Texas to visit my then, fiance, I was profiled. I was told it was random, but at the time the AA population in Arizona was only 3-4%, yet out of the 7 other people I saw in the inspection area I was carted off to, 5 were AA! One middle aged white couple was there, a Hispanic couple and an African American family. I was in my late 20's, a college grad with a family and my own business. I just "looked" like a smooth glibin' drug dealer to them, lol! It wasn't funny at the time and it wasn't in the days after 911. This was before when only "certain" people could fit the profile while the rest of America walked free. Then there was the time I was pulled over and had a gun pulled on me by a white police officer who was screaming at me as he approached the car in reactionary pose just waiting for me to make a wrong move. All due, as I found out later, to my old jalopy "supposedly" fitting the profile of that of a non-existent law breaker. My children were left rolling backwards in a running car, screaming at the top of their lungs as the police officer continued to try to force me to react to his threats and verbal attacks. Other officers passively watched. Did I forget to mention the SIX police backups he called for because I; a non-drinker, non-smoking, non-drug addict was trying to take my two small children to get a hamburger after church. My only crime was being of African culture in a country that has picked on those that are "different" and who have different values. Because, believe me, I'd never have pulled "me" aside in a travel line if I were in a war on drugs and knew the description of the true villans (which should have been more than, "Any Black Person, Person of Color or Non-Whites). Also, I would have never pulled "me" over because African Americans are always the "only" suspects so any will do fine, even those who are on Sunday drives with their children. We all want to BELIEVE we have rights, but it is the active facilitation of those rights which confirm or deny rather or not this is true. There are comments pro and con referring to the child who was targeted (I believe that was due to the parents reaction to the detector, from what I've read, which may have cast a determination to be careful by the inspectors...I could be wrong), but little does White America know or had cared in the past, this type of behavior against INNOCENTS has been going on all along! I'd like to ask if that child has any more rights as a citizen than I or my children had in the year's when we were ALL innocent (supposedly), but Americans with African descent was the terror? When it begins to happen to those of us whose children are blond haired and blue eyed and whose parents are from that same genetic pool, we all begin to cry foul. If we had but been protesting from the point of ANY American's rights being diminished, we'd not be a victim of our own ignorances today. As an American I think we should all fight for our rights. ALL of our rights, not just class, culture or zip code - but EVERY single person, none excluded. If we can do that for ourselves we can do it for others. That makes a freer world for us ALL. One LOVE!

• This is ridiculous. Just goes to show how far civil liberties have eroded in this country. And yes, I realize a 6 year old can carry a knife. Someone could carry a pen made of plastic explosives too. Or a pen that turns into a knife. For that matter, someone could easily walk into a movie theater with a bomb. • Few things. 1. 6 year old girls do not know their rights unless you tell them early on. 2. You may disagree but she does not have a right to get from point A to point B, she has an expectation but not a right to ensure that she gets there. (You thought Delta Airlines was ran by the government.) 3. Terrorism is not a right, it is a choice. (Rights by the way, means to have certain freedoms that everybody is allowed from day one.) 4. I wound if more people objected but since it's just you objecting right now, I don't feel the need to apologize or thank the TSA lady yet. I would mind the TSA lady's jobs if they told her what her rights are and if she didn't force her to subject for a drug test by the way (as what "terrorist" would stuff his/her kid up with drugs to get past security, I ask you!) Telling someone their rights is a sign of decency in my book.

• Absolutely. No Problem. Especially as the girl's parents preferred that she do this rather than quietly go into the body scanner without the public watching. And videod it too. And posted it so we could all see what a perfectly non-fazing experience it is. So, unnecessary as it was (to insist on one's rights to not go into the body scanner), as its OK with her parents, its OK with me.

• I'll pretend to take you at your word: OK, but I wouldn't, and we can't split the plane in half (and still both fly). Now please apologise to the nice lady who was doing her responsible job in the most responsible yet sensitive of ways, showing considerable understanding of the girl's (and possibly more threatening, the parents' ) potential reactions. Thank her for keeping me safe.

• Yes, at airports up and down the country, every hour, hundreds of 6 year old girls are arriving at airports with so much metal on them they trigger off the metal detector alarm, and they then refuse to allow their parents to allow them to go thorugh the body scanner instead of being videod by their father being patted down to see if they are carrying knives/box cutters.

What you pay them for is to try and ensure that, you having got on a plane to go to X, you are able to get off at X, and not prematurely. • You would be nothing to do with it, The knife blades are on your son's person. It is he who has to do the body scanner, which the parents of the girl could have opted for her to do.

• The TSA's job is to find people and things that could be used to blow up a plane or hold up the crew and passengers. There's no conscionable reason for the inspection except that the girl, having already triggered off a metal alarm, could be being used by a terrororist (OK not one wearing an 'I'm a terrorist, honestly!' Tee shirt) to carry on board knife blades that could, like 9/11, be used, not by her but by the person with her, to hold up the crew and passengers of the plane. Terrorists are not all completely dumb.

• The only things wrong with this video are; 1. The title. The TSA is NOT ' 'Still' groping children'. I hope someone gets sued for a lot of money for those words. 2. The fact that father saw fit to refuse for the girl to be put through the body scanner when some metal on her set off the metal alarm but instead elected to film her being patted down and then post the video to somewhere where the whole world (well, everyone with access to the internet) can see his daughter being patted down. I hope he's proud of himself. The existence and needless propogation of this video is grossly insulting to the TSA and in particular to the lady (impeccably) carrying out the search. Many of the comments are amazingly arrogant and unconsidered. If I was so ignorant and unimaginative, I like to think I'd at least have the intelligence to keep quiet. Currently, despite some of the opposing comments, including yours, which offer some alleviation against the overall poor impression, I think I may not come to the USA again. There are other more congenial nations to spend my life with. I am worried about the half of the USA whose words I have seen in this blog, and I thought we were bad enough in England.

• I would not be so quick to judge the passengers—up to that day hijackers were simply looking for a free ride somewhere our planes typically didn't go. The common wisdom was that if you cooperate, you all get out alive. So I don't think they acted out of fear; it was just that the rules changed and they weren't told.

When you board a plane you want to feel fairly confident that the person sitting next to you is not going to blow it up or hold box-cutter blades to the crew etc. You do not in fact want any person to go through by default without checking. You certainly do not want anyone to know that they have a good chance of getting a person (accomplice, slave, child, what have you) through if they conform to a certain type. Please do not heap unjustified insults on the American people in addition to the criticisms of the other half which I have made. You cannot maintain security with laissez-faire. For the greater good of the majority, you have to conform on issues like this. If you don't like it, don't fly. I do not criticise the Americans in any way for tolerating this, especially in the exemplorary way it was done. More credit to the lady, the TSA, and America for that.

• From what other responders say, it wasn't about drugs. I'd rather the people implementing the security policies had no discretion. I admire the lady for the exemplorary way in which she conscientiously did her job to keep you safe, could be seen to be keeping you safe, and to deter anyone who might otherwise think of using another person to carry explosives / implements (box-cutters?) onto the plane, but would not wish to entirely entrust my safety to the Judgement of just any individual working at this level. You only have to look at some of the persons involved in outrages or planned outrages in my country (England) to realise that you cannot necessarily even hazard a guess sometimes that a person of perfectly normal appearance and behaviour is carrying a lethal grudge. You and the others like you have to use a little more imagination and think things through. Maybe that's what is in short supply in (half of) the USA.

Its the lady's job, when a parent has refused to allow her child to go through the body scanner, to ensure the person is not carrying anything hazardous when the detector designed to detect hazards has detected a potential hazard. A potential hazard has been detected. The lady is doing her job of making sure the other people boarding the aircraft are not exposed to a hazard of the nature which the detector is designed to flag up and has flagged up. And she does it well.

• Is not Digg being highly mischievous here? Take it down. It appears to be standard procedure if the parent refuses the body scannner after an alarm and was carried out with the greatest respect by the TSA lady.

Well if you feel that way, maybe you should let your daughter fly on her own and stay at home yourself so you don't have to watch what happens when you refuse the body scanner after she's set off an alarm which has alerted the security service to the possibility of a potential act of terrorism.
