This Week in the Voice: The Life and Times of a Craigslist Heroin Dealer

2_16@200.jpg
This week in the Voice, David Shapiro and Runnin' Scared's own Joe Coscarelli shadow "Kai," an internet-age heroin dealer who pushes smack on Craigslist. He's not your average dealer; a graduate of "an elite private university in Boston," Kai impatiently paces throughout Manhattan, waiting for the next customer's e-mail. Selling and shooting up, he says, "have no effect on making me feel like a badass. It doesn't give me a swagger or a jolt in self-esteem. It doesn't make me feel cool."

Robert Sietsema travels out to Flushing to check out Yi Lan Halal Restaurant, "New York's first real Muslim Chinese establishment." If you don't know what to expect, don't worry; "you're likely to have a wonderful meal at this unique restaurant."

In the West Village, Lauren Shockey visits Buvette, a so-called "gastroteque." Even though it specializes in little dishes, "you'll actually leave charmed and with your belly full."

J. Hoberman watches a film that has waited 60 years to be released in America, Kaneto Shindo's Children of Hiroshima. It's a "a somber melodrama about the aftereffects of atomic radiation, shot on location in the half-rebuilt site of the world's first nuclear catastrophe."

Elsewhere, Michael Musto interviews Kelly McGillis about her career before and after coming out.

And don't forget to check out News, Music, Art, Theater, Film, Books, Dance, Restaurants, Free Will Astrology, and more!
