TSA Pat-Down of 6-Year-Old Girl to Be Reviewed

After public outcry over this video of a 6-year-old girl receiving a thorough pat-down from a TSA agent, which we posted yesterday (gleaning more than 100 comments), the TSA and Congress are promising to look at their policies for screening small children, reports the Washington Post.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), a main critic of TSA's screening policies, is asking TSA chief John Pistole to explain why a young child was inspected so thoroughly when, he says, TSA's explicit policy is "not to conduct thorough pat-downs on children under the age of 13." (Currently screeners are supposed to use a "modified" pat down for kids 12 and younger.)

The TSA has said that the agent in the video acted appropriately, but that they will review their policies. Via AOL News, "The agency is exploring ways to 'move beyond a one-size fits all system.'"

The video was taken by the girl's parents, Selena and Todd Drexel, in the New Orleans airport as they were on their way home to Kentucky. Todd Drexel told Good Morning America that his daughter Anna "was confused by the search and started crying afterward because she thought she'd done something wrong."

"Get Real"..you need to get real. This was a little girl and what happened here is the beginning of the end of our country- the end of our rights! You are clearly clueless or a TSA agent if you see this any other way. Blaming the parents?? Get real! The only "blame" I would give them is perhaps stopping it before it went any further, but they were probably in shock.

It's a parent's job to discuss what may or may not happen at the security checkpoints BEFORE they travel with kids, so that their children fully understand not to be worried if they are frisked. These parents should have told their daughter, before the ever got in line, that there will be security guards that have to follow procedures for their safety, and not to be afraid. This security guard was doing her job - simple as that. We can't be blind to the fact that children are used as drug-mules, carry toys and gear that can easily disquise weapons, etc. Children should be frisked as ANY other passenger on a plane. NO exceptions. My children have traveled by plane and understand the procedures. Get with the program, folks. These security measures have been in place for some time now, and with cause. If parents don't like it, then they shouldn't travel by plane - drive your car or take a cruise next time. We can't change security policies because a six year old girl felt "uncomfortable." She'd feel a lot more uncomfortable if a terrorist sat beside her on a plane.

"Well, Anna, we have to talk about safety. What the TSA does is not for your safety. There is nothing safe about strangers touching you. The TSA is there because people like Get Real think you deserve to be treated like a criminal. There are very, very bad people in charge at the TSA. John Pistole is a dangerous person who is making it easier for pedophiles to attack little girls like you. Janet Napolitano wants to look at our naked bodies so she can see exactly how our private parts are shaped. If a person has any naked parts that don't look exactly like what Janet thinks they should look like, then strangers have to put their hands way up in between your legs and rub back and forth for a little while. All of this is extremely evil, Anna. There are bad people in America who don't believe in liberty, who don't believe in the presumption of innocence, who want to give the government access to your naked body. We have to fight, Anna. We will write letters to our Congresspeople, to the airlines, to state and local officials, to everyone who might possibly be able to make these bad people stop touching you in the places your bathing suit covers. What they are doing is not right, no matter what excuses they make for their behavior."

wow. you sound like a crazy person.

it's for safety, not for being to getting off. do you think TSA officials are sitting back after work going "oh man I was so horny when I was patting down that dude" or "yo look at this the outline of this girl's breasts in fuzzy black and white, sexxxy"

get real is right, no exceptions.
