Working Too Much Could Kill You

Dangerous.
News you can use! If you're working 55 hours or more a week (and who among us isn't, really?), your health may be in danger. A study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine looked at 7,095 British civil servant workers who worked 11 or more hours daily. They were 67 percent more like to develop coronary heart disease than those slackers who worked a mere seven or eight hours a day. They were also 67 percent more likely to smell like thwarted hopes with a dash of pencil shavings.

Of course, much is not known. After all, these were British civil servant workers. Would American, say, bloggers, who care nothing for civil service, be similarly affected? Further, the authors of the study didn't know if working less would actually prevent heart disease -- or if work stress is just a marker for other risks.

Only time will tell, but you should probably alert your boss to this study in any case. If you don't stand up for you, who will? No one wants to die alone in his or her cubicle, only to be discovered days later by a weekend security guard. No one.
