Dominique Strauss-Kahn's Undisclosed New Location Very Quickly Disclosed; Is Fancy
That didn't take long! Dominique Strauss-Kahn's new lodgings have been identified as "a posh pad in Tribeca" with all the amenities, secured by his wife, Anne Sinclair, reports the New York Post. The three-story, 6,800-square-foot townhouse on 153 Franklin Street rents for $50,000 a month, which may be the priciest rental in all of Tribeca. The Post fills their story with disgust for the "frisky frog" -- how dare he live in such a place while awaiting trial for sex assault? -- a feeling that comes with, perhaps, a dose of jealousy. After all, the place does have a home theater, gym, spa, bar, heated floors, proximity to Nobu, and even a "Duravit jet tub and waterfall shower -- for relaxing after a hard day dueling with the prosecutors who want to lock him up in Manhattan Supreme Court."
Still, it's not all wine and roses. Upon entering the new place yesterday, a female passer-by apparently welcomed DSK by shouting, "Pig!" And the neighbors are already "not thrilled."
The intention, of course, in describing the lavish accommodations and home-bound lifestyle of DSK is to create a sense of grave injustice as we recall that his alleged victim is a hardworking African immigrant who is certainly not living in such luxury. How dare he? How snootily, self-entitledly French! But...did anyone really expect him to be living in a hovel until trial? And, in any case, the gravest injustice is not about real estate, but about what has been allegedly done.
At the same time, a good PR person might have recommended otherwise -- what about a reasonable two- or even three-bedroom on the Upper East Side? -- for a guy who's already been taken down publicly for his opulent lifestyle.
Yes, there's a photo gallery.
