Dominique Strauss-Kahn Denied Bail in Rape Case, Claims Lunch With Daughter Alibi

The head of the International Monetary Fund will remain in a New York City jail until his next court date on May 20. Dominique Strauss-Kahn was denied bail in a Manhattan court on Monday after being accused of attempting rape over the weekend (and then again) by a hotel maid at the Sofitel hotel near Times Square. Prosecutors argued that Strauss-Kahn was a flight risk and that DNA will tie him to the crime, while his attorneys claim he was eating at a restaurant when the alleged attack took place. Strauss-Kahn is said to have check out of the hotel "in a hurry" on Saturday afternoon, leaving his cellphone behind, and then meeting his daughter for lunch. Some on his side are already crying conspiracy because Strauss-Kahn was a front-runner to become the next president of France, though in America we try to leave it to the courts to sort that kind of thing out.
