Kenneth Moreno and Franklin Mata, NYPD Officers, Found Not Guilty of Rape
There is a verdict in the trial of NYPD officers Kenneth Moreno and Franklin Mata, who had been accused of raping a 27-year-old East Village woman they were called to help home on a drunken night in 2008. This comes on the seventh day of deliberations. Moreno, 43, and Mata, 29, were on trial for first-degree rape charges, two counts of second-degree burglary for entering her apartment twice, and several counts of official misconduct. Per NY1, both officers have been found not guilty of rape and have also been cleared of the burglary charges. Moreno and Mata have been found guilty of official misconduct for not calling an ambulance for the woman; they'll face up to a year in prison for that. The woman still has a $57 million lawsuit pending against the city.

Defense Attorney Joseph Tacopina said the officers, who have been suspended pending departmental review of their case, "do not expect to return to policing," reports NBC NY.
