Noam Chomsky on Osama Bin Laden: George W. Bush's Crimes 'Vastly Exceed' Bin Laden's

Legendary linguist, philosopher and far-left activist Noam Chomsky chimed in over the weekend on the death of Osama Bin Laden, offering a counter-intuitive, sometimes thoughtful, if incendiary, critique of American foreign policy, perhaps more controversial if it wasn't exactly what anyone who's read Chomsky would expect. After casting some doubt on Bin Laden's presumed guilt in planning the Septmber 11 attacks -- "He boasted of what he regarded as a great achievement" -- and questioning the legality of the assassination, Chomsky defends Pakistan's sovereignty before comparing George W. Bush to Nazi war criminals: "We might ask ourselves how we would be reacting if Iraqi commandos landed at George W. Bush's compound, assassinated him, and dumped his body in the Atlantic. Uncontroversially, his crimes vastly exceed bin Laden's, and he is not a 'suspect' but uncontroversially the 'decider,'" ...and there's a bit more. Read it if you really feel like fighting, one way or the other. [Guernica]

Chomsky's remark is typical of a leftist anti-American moron who is genuflected to by similar-minded Hollywood-types. Good God, listen to the mindless drivel that comes out of his mouth; how can anyone take it seriously?

When you have honourary degrees from over 30 universities, are the most cited person alive, have never once been proven wrong and are regarded as the smartest man alive like Chomsky is people tend to lsiten to you.

Really, the question of which guy committed the greater crimes comes down to the matter of resources. I have no doubt whatever that bin Laden would have outstripped Bush, who after all was never the best at anything, if the big feller had the same tools at his disposal as Bush did. Sure, Bush killed more civilians by a few orders of magnitude than bin Laden did, but bin Laden's attacks cost maybe a million or two total, not including overhead on the camps and stuff, and involved a relative handful of people, while the Bush efforts have topped a trillion and still counting and required hundreds of thousands of insanely well-armed US military personnel, spooks and mercenaries.

So while Bush did in fact kill, maim, traumatize and convert into refugees many, many more people than did bin Laden, the latter clearly has the edge on cost-effectiveness and vituperation. Chomsky is therefore technically correct but on the merits bin Laden was the vastly superior criminal.
