Ida, one of two Central Park Zoo polar bears, has died. She had contracted what the New York Daily News called a "cancer-related liver disease," and was euthanized today at the age of 25. "Ida was a great ambassador for all polar bears," city zoo director Jeff Sailer told the Daily News. What will become of Gus, Ida's male counterpart? Just this February the Wildlife Conservation Society noted that the two bears, the zoo's "oldest couple," still enjoyed cuddling and playing with one another. It should also be mentioned that Gus is known for being "neurotic."
