Glenn Beck Gets Cold Shoulder From New Yorkers in Bryant Park

On Tuesday, American hero Glenn Beck held back tears as he recounted the way that New Yorkers in Bryant Park mistreated him and his family at an outdoor screening of Alfred Hitchcock's 39 Steps the night before. Beck's tears demonstrate the seriousness of the situation -- this is a man who never cries. Apparently, Beck and his family were simply trying to enjoy the film when a pack of ravenous New York liberals descended on them. Beck reported on his radio show that the New Yorkers screamed, "We hate conservatives here," and "We're in New York and we hate Republicans." Later, he reports, someone "accidentally" spilled wine on his wife, Tania.

Beck, never one to blow anything out of proportion, had this to say about the moviegoers:

"If I had suggested -- and I almost did -- wow, does anybody have a rope? Because there's a tree here. You could just lynch me. And I think there would've been a couple in the crowd that would've!"

Fortunately for Beck, even if the crowd had tried to lynch him, his security detail would have had his back. A friend of the wine spiller wrote to New York Magazine arguing that it was in fact Beck's people who made the movie atmosphere unpleasant:

it was his security detail (two body guards) that seemed to be unnecessarily prickly with the crowd, scolding myself and my friends for acrobatics and other harmless activities taking place well before the movie started, and contributing to a considerably less relaxed atmosphere than is typically experienced during BPMN (I've been going for about six years now).

While there is dispute over who made the movie unpleasant, there is one thing that's certain: Glenn Beck definitely isn't using this event to criticize New York days after the state legalized gay marriage.
