God Told Crazy Guy to Swim to Statue of Liberty

It was all god and country for an unidentified dude over the weekend who says the lord commanded that he swim in the New York Harbor even though it was freezing. A 29-year-old reportedly got down to his bathing suit at Liberty State Park and dove in, attempting the 3/4-mile trip to the Statue of Liberty. He wasn't spotted for 45 minutes; God didn't tell him about the tide. "When we got to him he was shivering like a leaf and the tides were taking him away from Liberty Island," said a U.S. park officer. "He said he would rather drowned than get on the boat." Then he got in the boat. Presumably he was cold and God probably hadn't told him what to do next. [NYP]
