Naked Bike Riders Will Fill the Streets of NYC This Saturday
More nudity news you can use: The 2011 World Naked Bike Ride is on Saturday. This has always seemed rather uncomfortable (banana seat?) but it is for a good cause, that is, protesting harmful environmental effects from cars and oil dependencies and promoting alternative transportation. It's naked because, well, "naked bodies are not indecent, but exposure to greenhouse gases certainly is." Also, because nudity gets people interested in things that might otherwise seem less interesting. Not that the environment is not interesting. But the environment does not have boobs. Per se.

Still, you don't have to be nude. According to our pals at Brokelyn, there is a "wear what you wish" policy for the ride, which is open to the public (rain or shine!) and pre-games at Time's Up HQ under the Williamsburg Bridge, at 99 South 6th Street, off Bedford, at 3 p.m. There you can get your body painted, should you like. Riders assemble at 5 p.m. and leave at 6 from Manhattan's East River Park. Festivities conclude with an after-party back at Time's Up around 7. Fun for all, clothed or not! (What's the status on helmets, though?)
Note:
Because of the city's laws against public nudity, and previous enforcement issues with loosely organized bike rides, the full route is being kept underwraps until the day of the ride.
