NYC Is Getting Free Wi-Fi in Parks
New York is becoming just like a college campus -- Wi-Fi will soon be available all over the place! The city announced today that 26 locations in 20 parks are getting free AT&T Wi-Fi over the summer. You can boot up in three spots already: the Battery Bosque in Battery Park, the north-end playground in Joyce Kilmer Park and around the recreation center in Thomas Jefferson Park. Tompkins Square Park, the High Line, Prospect Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park are among the others that will receive the service. Central Park, naturally, will have multiple patches of Wi-Fi.

Looks like Dumbo has met its match. Just a week ago, we learned that the neighborhood was getting it's own free wireless network.
The same New York Times article outlining that development also revealed that a company called Towerstream has plans for a Wi-Fi network in Manhattan. Theirs, however, could be available for a price through cell phone service providers.
But with this new development, why buy the Internet when you can get the signal for free?
