NYPD Patrol Car Cruises Williamsburg Bridge Bike Lane

In the ongoing debate over bike lanes -- and who's either blocking them to cyclists or not using them properly as cyclists -- comes this video of a NYPD patrol car driving slowly and apparently leisurely along the Williamsburg Bridge bike path, which is ostensibly only for people who are either riding their bikes or walking. A tipster sent the video to LES blog Bowery Boogie, who asked, "can this elevated bike path really withstand car traffic?" Good question: We've gotten in touch with the NYPD and will update upon comment.

Using some simple math, given that a Chevy Impala weighs the equivalent of 20-25 adult humans in an area a little over 100 sq. ft. and with a 60/40 weight distribution of the vehicle the maximum weight on either side of the heavier front axle being about a half ton, that bike path should have absolutely no structural issues especially with very limited vehicular use. Using common sense, ya'll should be happy they patrol there rather than taking an issue with the nypd.

They probably figured they would beat the traffic.  Someone should have given them a ticket!  Hey, can you make a "citizen's arrest" on cops??
