NYPD Stop and Frisks Rise, But Civilian Complaints Fall

Interestingly, while NYPD stop and frisks continue to rise, the number of civilian complaints fell last year, according to figures published by the Civilian Complaint Review Board.

Police stopped more than 601,000 people in 2010, a jump of 25,000 people over 2009. But complaints about those stops fell by 15 percent, as part of an overall 15 percent drop in complaints, from 7,660 in 2009 to 6,476 in 2010.

The numbers seem to prove the opposite of what civil rights advocates have been saying for years, as the number of stop and frisks have skyrocketed during the Bloomberg administration. The city is being sued by the Center for Constitutional Rights over its' stop and frisk campaign.

RAY KELLY WINS BULL CONNOR AWARD AT COLUMBIA's SIPA!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

As Kelly left the hall with his guard, members of Stop Stop & Frisk, #OWS, and Columbia students and an alum presented him with his certificate for excellence in relentlessly hounding blacks and Latinos (2000/day) while defending the privileges and interests of white heterosexual males.

'seem to prove the opposite of what civil rights advocates have been saying for years'...just because people are getting more acclimated to having their rights violated (and complaining less) does not 'prove' that their rights aren't being violated.
