Sarah Palin Denies Flubbing Paul Revere Story

sarah palin revere.png
Remember how Sarah Palin has absolutely no idea what that Paul Revere guy did back in the Civil War or whatever? He didn't shoot guns or ring bells, contrary to Palin's opinion. But she's sticking to her guns. Palin appeared on Fox News this morning to defend her historical accuracy, saying "I didn't mess up about Paul Revere."

Palin claims to have been referring to a "less well-known" part of the story in which Revere is captured by the British.

"Part of his ride was to warn the British that we're already there - that, 'Hey, you're not going to succeed. You're not going to take American arms. You are not going to beat our own well-armed persons, individual, private militia that we have,'" Palin said, according to a transcript. "He did warn the British."

There is historical evidence that Revere was held at gunpoint by the British at some point, not during the famous midnight ride, and warned them that the American militia awaited them at Concord (if that's what Palin's talking about; who knows anymore!). Come, re-watch the original video. It doesn't quite seem like Palin was referring to that, does it?

Thus, Sarah Palin said something stupid for the millionth time. As you were.

Huh. And here I thought she was talking about Paul Revere & The Raiders!

It makes sense if you don't think about it.

Really?  You thought she was going to say, "My bad"?

What this Paul Revere  incident have clearly shown me is that Sarah Palin is a big fraud, a charlatan who is exploiting the patriotism of well meaning Americans. It is not below her to use patriotic sites as back drops and props and use language such as love of country, gun touting and our brave milltary men and women comments that she spouts regularly. If Sarah was genuine she could at the least get on the internet and find out the history and relevance of the historic sites that she was about to use in her presidential campaign, but in fact she doesn't care and don't want to know. Her followers is a joke, she is using them also, the same way, don't give a damn about their plight only their money and support for her politcal ambitions.  It is one big performance that gets to the psyche of patriotic Americans who follow this gypsy-like performance.

Super Sarah was historically accurate, and she "didn't mess up about Paul Revere"; but she has certainly messed up the nerdy noggins of mainstream media mavens & bonkers bloggers who become unhinged at her very word & gesture.

Unhinged?  If that now means "Laughing our asses off at your all's pathetic attempts to spin her ignorance," I guess reality is unhinged.

"Your all's"? It's spelled "ya'lls" I believe.

During Paul Revere’s ride he was stopped by British soldiers, which Revere recounts in a 1789 letter maintained by the Massachusetts Historical Society in his original language:

"I observed a Wood at a Small distance, & made for that. When I got there, out Started Six officers, on Horse back, and orderd me to dismount;-one of them, who appeared to have the command, examined me, where I came from, & what my Name Was? I told him. it was Revere, he asked if it was Paul?"

"I told him yes He asked me if I was an express? I answered in the affirmative. He demanded what time I left Boston? I told him; and added, that their troops had cached aground in passing the River, and that There would be five hundred Americans there in a short time, for I had alarmed the Country all the way up."

" He immediately rode towards those who stopped us, when all five of them came down upon a full gallop; one of them, whom I afterwords found to be Major Mitchel, of the 5th Regiment, Clapped his pistol to my head, called me by name, & told me he was going to ask me some questions, & if I did not give him true answers, he would blow my brains out."

" He then asked me similar questions to those above. He then ordered me to mount my Horse, after searching me for arms.He then ordered them to advance, & to lead me in front. When we got to the Road, they turned down towards Lexington. When we had got about one Mile, the Major Rode up to the officer that was leading me, & told him to give me to the Sergeant. As soon as he took me, the Major ordered him, if I attempted to run, or any body insulted them, to blow my brains out."

" We rode till we got near Lexington Meeting-house, when the Militia fired a Voley of Guns, which appeared to alarm them very much."

This account is "Paul Revere's Ride" by David Hackett Fischer (Oxford University Press 1994),

"A townsman remembered that 'repeated gunshots, the beating of drums and the ringing of bells filled the air.'.... Along the North Shore of Massachusetts, church bells began to toll and the heavy beat of drums could be heard for many miles in the night air."

Yeah, I'm sure Palin spends lots of time on the tour bus reading Oxford University Press trying to ferret out obscure factoids to wow you Fox News dimbulbs.

Or maybe she's a complete and utter narcissist who simply misspoke but can never, ever, ever, ever, ever admit that she's anything but perfect.  As such, history has to be rewritten rather than Palin admitting a mistake.  Really quite pathetic that you Palin cultists have to twist yourselves into knots trying to absolve her.

Palin makes it tough to be a humorist because she's a natural, and the rest of us actually have to work at it! That said, we must persevere. Here are some headlines we'd rather NOT see, including: Woods and Schwarzenegger: "We're just dating. It's nothing serious." Palin retracing Paul Revere's ride on roller skates.

More headline whimsy is at Thinking Out Loud, http://marperl.blogspot.com/20...

And too, the militia were not well armed or trained: fowling pieces, old muskets w/o bayonets, and even matchlock blunderbusses; when faced with British regulars with fixed bayonets, it was not uncommon for the militia to run instead of fight. [Sigh]

That has to do with Palin misspeaking and being such a control-freak narcissist that can't admit a mistake exactly how?
