Scientology Eruption: Commenters of the Week!

Volcano_eruption.jpg
It's been another big week of Scientology news here at the Voice. On Monday, we put up what we think was the 'Net's first review of Janet Reitman's masterful new book, Inside Scientology. Then we followed that up with a nugget from the book about how Scientology dictator David Miscavige encourages staff to salute his favorite beagles.

But it was our third story of the week, revealing that Marty Rathbun had made public a secret Scientology list of parishioners who had volunteered to be spies for the church, that really kicked up a commenter kerfuffle. After the jump, we'll reveal our favorites from both the pro- and anti-Scientology side of things.

First, from the pro- side of things, we enjoyed this skeptical jab at our story on Rathbun's revelation of spying church members by someone who called himself "Mike":

"Here is a list of communists in the State Department...oh, I mean OSA spies..." I think it odd that a Church would keep a list of loyal volunteers that can be counted on. You guys are so gullible.

And from the anti- side, we got a chuckle out of this uppercut by a commenter who called himself "Jim Dandee":

Does having your own private Gestapo disqualify you for having tax-exempt status as a religion in the US?

Good questions both! Congrats to both Mike and Jim Dandee.

We have plenty of more Scientology stories simmering on the burner. Make sure to be around next week to jump into the fray!

Thanks for this update. I hope you will do more round ups like this. This kind of post is a summary of the weekly cult footbullet. Very useful.

Thanks again for your work. You are the only journalist regularly reporting and commenting. It is appalling the mainstream media have ignored stories like the Eastgate and Wiesenthal-Cruise scandals.

Much looking forward to your interview with Janet Reitman.

btw, speaking of ex Scientologists, I've been hearing rumors that Lisa Marie Presley, while being holed up in her mega mansion in the UK is putting the finishing touches on her memoirs which I'm hearing is also going to do a lot of damage to the Co$.

The best Scientology lulz of the week by far though is some Scientologist spray-painting the word "ANON" on the Scientology mission in Ocala, Florida.

here's Jenna and Bodhi Elfman's Twitter accounts so you can ask them about their OSA spyinghttp://twitter.com/#!/JennaElf...http://twitter.com/#!/bodhielf...

methinks they won't be getting work in Hollywood after that story broke..

I can't wait until the list of the East Coast OSA spies leaks (I think a certain Ms. Kelly Preston will be on there)

"Mike" will be running down the hall to show this to David Miscavige who will probably reward him with a bottle of niacin and a pat on the head.

Tony, Did you happen to see the video of Jan Eastgate's first appearance in court that took place yesterday? 30 Scientologists goons came with her, and physically pushed all the journalists that tried to take a picture of Jan. Australian newspapers reported about the event, having headlines like "Scientologist gets a human shield for court appearance".

While we're on the topic of Scientology erupting, in Google daily "News" search, how is it that their "Meet a [Crazy] Scientologist" PR release slash advertisements make it to the top of the news archive?

The archive is mostly chronological yet even older ads of theirs, that get rehashed over days, still make it to the top? There just aren't enough Scilons on line to be clicking up these ads are there? So, they must  employ software of some sort.

Thanks for being our beacon of breaking scientology bull. When the Reitman book comes out, hopefully new watchers will find your archive of articles very helpful.

Just what we need-- more unsubstantuated  rumors. Hey mjm, I heard that you..., oh, well, never mind.

The Scilons will employ their goon squad, complete with super empowered "umbrella tech" to not allow Jan, the child molestation cover-upper, to be photographed or filmed as the "face of Scientology." Then there's just the problem of her face. She looks like Scientology.

They've probably reposted the same thing a few times, and they're definitely trying to flood the "entheta" off GoolgeNews, but maybe the press-release places they use don't update the timestamps for the reposts.

LOL, Terryeo, the master of hypocrisy. Terryeo was recently asking people to not pass judgement on Jan Eastgate before all the facts are in. Lack of facts or proof never stopped Terryeo of accusing Scientology critics of all manner of things in the past.  Hey Terryeo, why do you keep changing your nickname again?
