Simchon Schwartz, Brooklyn Hasid, Faces Hate Crime Charges For Attacking Muslim Neighbors

Things got scary in Mill Basin on Saturday night when Simchon Schwartz, a 46-year-old hasidic man, harassed and then attacked his newlywed Turkish neighbors. Witnesses reported that Schwartz grabbed Selda Turan, 27, and shoved her against her car while screaming, "Fucking Arabs! Fucking terrorists!" He proceeded to open a can of beer and pour it on her head. When her husband, Mustafa Turan, ran to her defense, Schwartz hit him in the face. Schwartz then hid in a local synagogue and attempted to fight off the police when they arrived to arrest him.

After punching Mustafa Turan, Schwartz is believed to have keyed the Turans' car. When the cops finally apprehended him, he complained that his cuffs were too tight and kicked out a window in the backseat of the squad car. Schwartz now faces charges of felony assault and felony criminal mischief as hate crimes. He also is accused of resisting arrest, obstructing cops, menacing and harassment. If found guilty, he's looking at a sentence of up to fifteen years.

Witnesses have suggested that Schwartz's attack was unprovoked, but his attorney, Lance Lazzaro, insists that the police, "arrested the wrong person." According to Lazzaro, Schwartz was attacked by Mustafa Turan, 32, who he claims called Schwartz a "dirty Jew." While police found no physical evidence supporting Schwartz's story, Mustafa Turan required three stitches after the blow from Schwartz.

Schwartz was released without bail on Sunday and returned to his townhouse which shares a wall with the Turans home. While the judge granted the Turans an order of protection preventing Schwartz from contacting them, things are going to be tense for a while -- sources report that Esther Schwartz, Simchon's wife, told the Turans, "This is a majority Jewish neighborhood. We're going to get you back," and over the weekend, she gathered 20 signatures on a petition calling for the Turkish family's eviction. Their landlords, Rusden and Saadet Dolan, rejected the petition.

First of all i would just like to say bravo n thiis article. You did such an amazing job or turning the WHOLE story inside out. I wonder how long you studied to get this good! Its interesting to see that you did not write one sentence about what Turans said and did to there children. As someone who was there and heard about a million times what had happened while I was reading this article I thought that I was reading a short ficton. You did not seem to report how many non-Jewsh families live in that area did you? nor did you mention that that Turans apartment is owned by a Turkish woman that is close to the Schwartz family and has lived there peaceful side by side with the Schwartz family for many years. And I would like to say that I know Esther personally and that did not happen. I see A LOT of  false articles about the Jewish community and of course the State of Israel but there is somethng about this one. This is a "story" and nothing more.

that's basically a crime and he needs to punished front of the court. no one can say all Jewish people like that guy who attacks others for no good reason.it doesn't matter the attacker is Jewish  christian, or other religion or Satanist, even if he was a Muslim... assaulting someone like that is a huge mistake, and we can not judge all Jewish people because of that stupid man or people who supports him.

Wow... a Jewish man made "harmful" comments to his neighbour (who allegedly made harmful comments first). That and the occasional welfare cheat. Please compare that with minority neighborhoods that are inundated with murder, rape, violence, prostitution and drug dealings. People smoking crack and skipping school. Fighting over silly things like "shoes".Its interesting to note that Jewish neighborhoods, statistically, ALMOST ALWAYS have less crime than others. The fact that you guys have to latch on to this isolated incident is pathetic

Wow, I didn't know you could just start a petition of your neighbors to have another law-abiding neighbor evicted. Wait ... we are getting word in at this hour that you cannot, in fact, do this. What is your standing in court to break the lease agreement? "They are from a Muslim-dominated country, ipso facto terrorists."

And what is this crap from the wife, supposedly threatening this couple? Someone needs to keep their attack-dog on a leash, otherwise it's going to get them in more trouble.

Dear Chabad, harboring perpetrators of hate crimes is a poor Jewish community relations move. Apologize.

My friend as i said in the previous comment i witnessed 2 "hate crimes"...By the first one a friend of mines younger brother was standing outside a dunking doughnuts smoking a cigaret (he's a young teenage jewish boy)...When a 38 year old arab comes out and tells him to get lost. The kid asks him if he works at the store and the guy tells him yes i manage it.(he was lying he had nothing to do with the store)The kid knew he wasn't telling the truth and told him its america free country go jump in a lake. The guy gets pissed and starts advancing on the kid threatening him.NOW LISTEN TO THIS a few of his friends from the area see what's going and tell the guy to back off. They call the police when the 38 year old hit this teenager in the face.A few min later the teenagers older brother arrives on seen and punches the guy in the face. Now when the cops come the guys bleeding and points his fingers crying at them.A 38 year old!!! They get arrested for hate crime they went threw hell and back for pretty much nothing. How can i forget, the media painted the picture as racist as possible. They wrote that jewish boys wearing black hats and jackets beat upon a defensless arab bystander  with weapons and there was more...hahahhaha welcome to anti-semitism
