Who Is — and Isn't — the Sunset Park Rapist?

Three weeks ago, the cops arrested William Giraldo, 24, for allegedly raping one of four women who they think are victims of a serial rapist in the Sunset Park area of Brooklyn. But Giraldo (who was arraigned on the day he was supposed to be getting married in Florida) was charged with only one of the rapes, and yesterday the NYPD announced that a June 25 rape, also in Sunset Park, is also believed part of the pattern. Who is this unknown fiend? Above, you can catch a fleeting glimpse of the suspect.

The latest rape in Sunset Park — at about 4 a.m. this past Saturday, June 25 — is eerily similar to the one that Giraldo has been accused of committing.

On June 4, cops say, Giraldo, who's a livery cab driver, followed a 28-year-old woman from a Dunkin Donuts at about 3 a.m. and raped her in the vestibule of her Sunset Park building.

Giraldo was charged the next Wednesday, June 8, with that crime, but his attorney said he was innocent and pointed out at the time that the victims of the three other sexual attacks did not identify him as the culprit. In fact, Giraldo had gone to a police station on June 7 "to proclaim his innocence after his family recognized him in video footage at that Dunkin Donuts that cops released to the public earlier in the week," the Daily News reported at the time.

In any case, it's pretty clear that the Sunset Park Rapist hasn't been caught. On June 25, a 36-year-old woman was attacked at about 4 a.m. in the vestibule of her Sunset Park building. The unknown creep tried to push her into the building while grabbing her throat. But she yelled, and he fled. His description is similar to that of the attacker in the four previous rapes and attempted rapes — including Giraldo's.

So, who is responsible for the Sunset Park rapes? One creep or two? Or four or five? The NYPD says of all five attacks: "Due to the description of the suspect, the modus operandi and the location of occurrence the NYPD's Special Victims Squad has deemed this part of the pattern."
