At 1:30 p.m. today, a 49-year-old Hispanic woman was found unconscious and unresponsive in the basement apartment of 101 Stanton Street, according to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Public Information. Emergency Medical Services pronounced her dead on arrival. A man who appeared to be in his 60s was removed from the building in handcuffs around that same time, an employee of Pimps & Pinups hair salon, located at that same address, told us this afternoon. It appears that the woman had been in a relationship with the man. At the scene, Juana Hernandez, a friend of the victim, explained that the victim, who lives elsewhere on Stanton, works as a home attendant but apparently did not show up at work yesterday. Detectives on the scene referred us to DCPI, who said that there is no arrest as of yet and the investigation is ongoing. We'll update as the story unfolds.
