Some Squawk, But Debt Ceiling Budget Fight Goes Just the Way Rightbloggers Want It

tomt200.jpgLast week the Congressional fight over America's debt ceiling became a full-blown hostage situation, with Republicans demanding, in exchange for what has been during previous Administrations a pro-forma procedure, major budget concessions from Democrats -- and getting them.

At this writing, there seems to be a $1 trillion+/decade deal -- though the details are fuzzy, perhaps purposefully so.

As some conservatives admitted early in this process, the GOP has been scoring a major pot with an awfully weak hand. But how could they miss? While the Democrats were compromising with the Republicans, the Republicans were "compromising" with their Tea Party constituents. In other words, both parties were going right.

The Twitter account belonging to Anders Behring Breivik, the man who murdered over 90 people in Norway in twin attacks over a week ago, appears to have been hacked.

That tweet indicates that "hacktivist" group Anonymous is behind the hack.

It's also a primary thrust of death -- apparently tombs and mausoleums are subject to the same astronomical prices and cutthroat competition as New York City housing and real estate. ​A 13-year-old girl was killed in Brooklyn last night when a stabbed man ran her over on the street. Kirra Goddard was struck by 44-year-old Sean Lewis' SUV when it overturned on Pacific Street in Ocean Hill; she was pronounced dead on the scene. Lewis crashed into several parked cars before his SUV flipped; he was taken to the hospital, where doctors discovered that he had been stabbed in the torso. He died soon after that. CBS reports that Kirra warned her sister and friends to get out of the way as the car careened down the street, effectively saving their lives.

Frank Borzellieri, a conservative writer and educator with ties to a white supremacist organization, is the principal of a Bronx Catholic school where most of the students are black or Latino, reports the Daily News. Borzellieri, 48, has been running Our Lady of Mount Carmel School for two years. He's also the author of a book called Don't Take It Personally: Race, Immigration, Crime and Other Heresies which outlines charming viewpoints of his like how "diversity is a weakness," and he's a former Queens school board member whose positions included a push to ban a biography of Martin Luther King Jr. from schools.

Facebook has added an "Expecting" option to your profile settings, because expecting parents simply don't have enough channels by which to announce the news of their imminent childbearing. You can add the baby's name and due date, and when you update, the information will go to your friends' news feed. It's a good, easy way to begin the lifetime of social media oversharing that will accompany your parenthood, and also an exceptional prank to pull on one's parents, specifically mine. BRB.

A new twist in the seemingly endless News Corp debacle: now authorities in Britain are expanding their investigation into allegations of computer hacking on top of the existing phone hacking and police bribing. Scotland Yard released a statement: "Operation Tuleta is currently considering a number of allegations regarding breach of privacy, received by the MPS since January 2011, which fall outside the remit of (phone-hacking) Operation Weeting, including computer hacking. Some aspects of this operation will move forward to a formal investigation."
