David Weprin Chosen by Democrats to Run For Anthony Weiner's Seat in Congress

Congressman Anthony Weiner's resignation from the U.S. House of Representatives for his sexting lies led to a local flurry of speculation about a successor, who will be picked in a special election on September 13. Today, the Queens Democratic County Organization selected Assemblyman David Weprin to run in New York's heavily Democratic 9th district for a seat that may not even exist come election time next year due to redistricting. Rep. Joe Crowley, head of the selection process, had a few phone calls with those interested in running and came down where he did in part because, as the Observer reports, "Weprin, a loyal party guy, is an extremely unlikely candidate to run against Crowley, or any other congressman in the immediate vicinity" in 2012.
