Kitty Lambert, First Wed New York Lesbian, Will Join Former NOM Operative Louis Marinelli on Marriage Equality Tour

This just in: if politics makes strange bed fellows, same-sex marriage makes them all the stranger. Kitty Lambert, one half of the first same-sex couple married in New York State just after midnight Sunday, will be joining Louis Marinelli on the National Organization for Marriage Equality Tour this summer, Marinelli tells the Voice.

Why is this significant? Marinelli is straight, conservative, and was the tech guru for NOM, the anti-gay National Organization for Marriage. As recently as last summer, he was driving the truck and the social media operations for NOM on their anti-gay marriage tour. But during that time, Marinelli tells us, "My heart was changed because I went out and saw people like Kitty, and couples like Kitty and Cheryle [Rudd]. I heard what they had to say, and I saw them as human beings." When he converted to being a marriage equality supporter, Marinelli not only dumped NOM, but became one heck of a knowledgeable defector. He's now founded NOME, and is launching the Summer for Marriage Equality Tour next month in San Diego.

How did these two unlikely allies, both from Buffalo, meet?

"I went to their wedding" in Niagara Falls, Marinelli says. "We were there with our 'Marriage Equality' shirts on, and she drove by in a golf cart. The next day, we were at a NOM protest in Buffalo. Someone connected to their family noticed us, and our shirts had our website, and [Kitty] contacted me through the website."

And now she's joining him on the tour. Marinelli had previously told us that it was important for him as a conservative to speak to other conservatives about how they can have a change of heart. But he also thinks,"It's important for people to see this is about people's lives. It's not theoretical. It's easy to focus on votes in congress, or ballot initiatives, or court cases. People have to be able to put a face to an issue. Now that Kitty Lambert has finally been able to get married, she's the perfect person to go out and show why people should support this cause."

We will be doing a Skype interview with Marinelli and Lambert later this week, talking to the one-time ideological foes about their joint efforts for equality. Got questions? Get at us.

The constitution of marriage is between one women and one man, that is how God designed it to be.

Did you mean the "institution" of marriage?  Of course throughout scripture there were any number of men who were ordained of God .. who had multiple wives, but I don't want to take up your time confusing you with the facts.  I do think you mean the "institution" of marriage, hon.

Then that is the sort of marriage YOU should have.  Marriage for others is between two people who love each other, and that is the sort of marriage THEY should have.  Since marriage in this country is not legal until a civil contract (marriage license issued by the state) is filed, it does not matter in the slightest how your god designed anything.  God is not the legal authority in this country.

This is just Wrong... God made us man and woman Adam and Eve not man and man Adam and Steve..what has happen to this country.  Our founding fathers founded this land on the word of God and as time has gone by people have let Satin take control of it, it is time to get back to the word of God and the way things were ment to be.  God said that no man should lay with another man, where are the morrals at anymore, don't people have them now adays, why are noit more Christians and people with a God fearing aditude standing up for what God said about how things should be????  COME ON PEOPLE TAKE THE BLINDERS OFF AND LETS GET THIS COUNTRY BACK TO WHAT IT IS SUPPOSE TO BE LIKE.

Re: "WHAT IT IS SUPPOSE [sic] TO BE LIKE"

Gee, I can remember when America used to promise freedom of (and FROM) religion to ALL its citizens.

Your version of "God" seems as small-minded as Tiffany's above.

Meanwhile, perhaps it would behoove you to remember the inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness. And, the promise of LIBERTY and JUSTICE for ALL, not just for pseudo-"Christians" like you.

Tell me something? If marriage is so sacred, why don't any of your camp understand the CIVIL history of marriage. It was one polygamous, wife beating was common and expected, even embodied in artwork, and prisoners can legally marry, deadbeat dads who owe child support can legally marry. A church can't perform a legal marriage without a state license, nor can it be legal even if they say "By the power vested in me by the state of NY" unless they have that license. As much clamoring as you do around religious marriage, most of you are ignorant of the civil aspect as well as gay issues and the law.

Not to  burst your bubble but Adam and Eve had two sons Cain and Abel. Cain murdered Abel and then got married. By that time Adam and Eve had another son- Seth. So if you have a dad and a mom and two boys how does the human race continue? Hmmmm...

And God said no man shall lay down with a man as he lays with a woman. Obviously not a restriction on gay sex, but a restriction on gay sex for straight men.

Well, now, Guest... this country is supposed to be equal, tolerant, and not a theocracy.  I would say we are closer to that this month than we were two months ago.  So big cheers for marriage equality!!!
