This Week in the Voice: 4Knots Music Festival Preview

This week in the Voice: It's the preview issue for our 4Knots Music Festival, set to take place July 16 at South Street Seaport! Maura Johnston previews the lineup, which includes the Black Angels, Titus Andronicus, Oberhofer, Eleanor Friedberger, Mr. Dream, and Davila 666. She also muses on the sensation of summer concerts in the city, writing: "Music and the crowded, open-air spaces of New York are always linked, but they go together even better in the summer, a season that is unofficially ushered in by the first time the insidious Mister Softee jingle comes within listening range." Still on the topic of 4Knots, Michaelangelo Matos talks to the Fiery Furnaces' Eleanor Friedberger, who is on the festival's bill, about her solo venture.

Meanwhile, Michael Tedder takes on the Black Angels, and explains the band's Velvet Underground influences.

Elsewhere, Michael Musto gets gossipy, doling out dirt on a variety of celebrities ranging from Selena Gomez to Sandra Bernhard.

In theater, Michael Feingold reviews Peter Brook's production of Mozart's Magic Flute, writing that "the concomitant stylistic flaw is that it rarely rises to the heights of Mozartian emotion either."

Robert Sietsema journeys to Yorkville's gastropub Jones Wood Foundry and says it "might be the most perfect facsimile gastropub of all."
