Tom Cruise Not a Kook! Pfizer Protest Linked to Scientology, But Don't Tell the Protesters That

CruiseNotAKook.jpg
A friend to Runnin' Scared sent us some very interesting photos from the site of a protest yesterday outside the Pfizer building on East 42nd Street.

She noticed right away a reference to everyone's favorite Scientologist, Tom Cruise, in one of the signs, which read, "Tom Cruise Not a Kook! Psychiatric Abuse Epidemic Is Real!"

Other signs made reference to various psychiatric drugs, which Cruise famously ran down when he went fairly loony in 2005. (Couch jumping. Surely you remember.)

Our friend looked at the literature and found a direct tie to Scientology. But when she brought that up to the protesters? Well, they didn't react too kindly.

From our correspondent:

They told me they were Catholics and even had a little table with saints and crosses. But when I pointed out that the CCHR link on their flier was Scientology-related, some lady began screaming at me that I was ignorant and was a bigot.

Our heroine is talking about the reference to the Citizens Commission on Human Rights, an anti-psychiatry Scientology front group, whose website (CCHRINT.org) is mentioned on the fliers being handed out yesterday:

CCHRFlier.jpg

Could it be the "Catholics" at the protest were really unaware they were doing the work of Scientology? The mind reels.

It's a sad day when a cult like scientology is refered to as a religion and it's even more disappointing when talented actors like Cruise and Travolta are so intelectually  challenged that they actively support  a mind control, sleeze bag, slime ball, con artist, tax dodging group that calls itself a church or even worse a religion.

If Tom Cruise is Not a Kook .? Then what exactly is he ? Kidding . Thanks for this . :)

I am baffled as to why this article's main focus was on scientology at all.  As a friend of the Vulaj family I can tell you for certain that they are not scientologists.  The protest was formed because Chantix changed the chemistry in Tino's brain and he subsequently took his life, and no matter how many times his mom contacted Pfizer to get help (Chantix was fairly new and it's side effects were not well known to non-pfizer related doctors), Pfizer would NOT help at all.  And after a chain of chantix related suicides, Pfizer still only looks at its revenue, instead of the people it affects. That being said.... the protest was formed by Tino's family to make people aware that Chantix KILLS....  Everyone is commenting on the cchrint.org website address referred to for more info on mind altering meds... but it also mentions ssristories.com right beside it... a non-religious based org.The point should not be about Tom Cruise or his religious beliefs, or my beliefs, or your beliefs.... The point of this article should have focused on the dangers of taking Pfizer's smoking cessasion med called Chantix, which alters brain cells and caused Valentino Vulaj to take his own life.   We should be spreading the word about this tragedy to prevent any more senseless suicides instead of bickering about Tom Cruise.

Ok.. here we ago.. another argument about Scientology vs drugs. I love that Scientology has actually tried to stick to their guns about this one, but it falters when AGAIN there is a problem with the extremist mentality that Scientology has adopted over the years. I think that is where it loses most people. For instance, being 16 and getting very very sick.. I layed in bed for weeks trying to get better. The Scientology school I went to REFUSED to seek medical help. I fevered, blacked out, ached, couldnt walk, couldnt talk, couldnt eat. My glands were so swollen it was constricting my air way. What did the OT7 and OT8 do who were trying to care for my particular condition in 1994 via a 1959 published policy by LRH? I went to the chiropractor. Confused? Let me give that to you one more time. I was, in my condition.. taken to a chiropractor. Who had to stop mid session as his hands were leaving bruises on me. Instead of taking me to the Dr. I went back to the school and was told to get up and do MEST work. After 8 hours like this cleaning a barn, I finally collapsed and couldnt get back up.   At this point someone would assume a Dr should be consulted .. but NO.. again.. lol they decided to crush up vitamins, stick them in orange juice and have me drink that. skip forward another 24 hours, I was finally admitted into the hospital when a non-scio worker from the school told them if they didnt take me to the hospital she would call the police. The hospital kept me for a few days, gave me liquids, antibiotics, medicine to help me eat.. and after I finally got the proper.. key word here..PROPER care for my condition, it came that I had mono and needed about 3-4 weeks of solid rest.

Point being.. Scientology you have to draw the line somewhere between crazy and slap flipping nuts. Most people dont care if you believe in the power of alien beings or the power of lava lamps to keep you on a straight and narrow path. Whatever keeps you from being a serial killer or pedophile ..congrats. But let the rest of us who dont share your sentiments live as "glib" as we wanna be.  And for gods sake.. put a leash on Tom. Every county has leash laws, why is it fair for him to roam free?

Speaking of the "I am not a Scientologist but..." crowd, i see my favorite UK paper The Daily Mail, has just published an article on 8 July 2011  "Spotlight on Scientology", worth a read! is this in step with the rest of the worlds mainstream media?Funny over the past few months they have attacked every critic of the CoS (Anonymous 10+ times, Jason Beghe, and now The Village Voice) and yet publish a glowing testimony to the Church of Scientology, but then again "they are not Scientologists but..."

Scilonschools

One of Scientology's latest current deluded denial tricks. We have alot of them in the UK at the moment."I am not a Scientologist but... " crowd!!They seem to think people have a problem with them just becuse people don't like 'Scientologists' and nothing to do with their abusive and uninformed behavior  !Actually if you spend time talking to REAL Scientologists such as the 'Indies' at Marty's Blog they are very pleasant and informed and never need to deny their belief of 'Real' Scientology!

Yep, that's definite proof that they're Scientologists, they love the "B" word and they were acting like a shady front group.

CCHR? Would that be Scientology front group Citizens Commission on Human Rights? Now why does that ring a bell?

Oh right. Their International Director, Jan Wendy Eastgate Meyers, was arrested last month in Australia for helping to conceal the ongoing molestation of a little girl. The stepdaddy was a Scientologist, so we wouldn't want the Most Ethical People on the Planet getting a bad reputation now, would we?

No, best to frighten the victim into silence, thus preserving Scientology's reputation at the cost of a little girl's deserved justice.

Ron
Ron

Err, if Scientology wasn't involved, why would that woman scream "bigot" when questioned on the links to CCHR in their handout? The reference to Tom Cruise is just frosting on the cake.

Through their front groups, or even front groups of front groups, Scientology tries to co-op anyone with a grievance against psychiatry or "psych drugs" and manipulate them for Scientology's goals. Groups with legitimate grievances should be very careful who they get into bed with. They might catch Space Cooties.

It sounds like protestor is merely  misinformed (about CCHR), is upset and let's face it, the problem is deep in the bowels of the medical insurance company, dictating how many minutes the doctors can see patients, that sort of thing.  There's simply not a lot of help out there; even antiobiotics became overprescribed.  That ssristories site has one of those disclaimers, though, not sci or cchr.

While I can empathize, hooking up with any of scientology's gene pools is like jumping into a line of cruising sharks to find a good fishing spot.

Highly unlikely imo if they've looked at any of the fine work on Catholic.org by Randy Sly.

The protesters should have had another sign saying "Tom Cruise is not glib". By the way- I think that it was a perfectly legitimate protest over a death of a young adult who took his own life. Obviously there is no way of proving that he killed himself because he took anti-depressants in the first place, or because he didn't take enough of them. But what bothers me in this story is the CCHR vulture culture - they just jump in every time when there is a disaster or a personal tragedy, trying to promote their own goals at the expense of the real victims.

It doesn't take a doctor to know that the drugs psychiatrists prescribe doesn't make anyone healthy. U will not notice the damage done to ur son until too late. It may be that death will come sooner, or that if he would've taken a healthy alternative, he might be a different, better person. Cerebral chemical disorder is a chemical imbalance in the brain. Where did the psychiatrists learn of this? Did u know that this, among other psychiatric illnesses did not occur until the 1950s, and that people, before that date, were perfectly fine. They consider shyness to be an illness too, along with obesity. But obesity is only caused by eating unhealthy foods or foods implanted with chemicals, while being shy is a natural occurrence, but can be overcome, naturally, or by being taught self-confidence. So, no matter wut, u should definitely look for a healthy alternative before opting to go with these drugs that have side effects, such is the case with paroxetine: http://www.medicinenet.com/par.... Paroxetine's side effects include "worsening depression, other mental/mood symptoms, or suicidal thoughts/attempts." So, do ur research before accidentally bringing harm to ur child!

So now you proffer pharmacological advice, without any credentials. More intellectual dishonesty, Mark. Shame on you.

Mark Miglio; your intellectually dishonest pretension to having medical credentials is making you appear to be much more than a scientologist.

Your intellectual dishonesty is making you appear to be a retarded scientologist.

Paroxetine, aka Paxil, Aropax, Seroxat and Sereupin saved my son's life. Fifteen years ago, my son suffered some kind of cerebral chemical disorder.

After two years of medically supervised administration of the SSRI medication, he was healthy again. He has stayed completely healthy since that time.

Your arrogance and intellectual dishonesty is a disgrace to human kind and the vile cult to which you so passionately pledge allegiance.

Hey, Marky, you got one thing right -- unlike you and some of the people who write there troubles here -- I am not so weak.  It would take a lot of drugs to put me down.

Mark Miglio
Mark Miglio

Okay, Tony, but I'll tell you just a little bit of story which may someday be of use to you: my sister was having a difficult time trying to stop smoking, so her doctor put here on Prozac.  True story.  Some of the doctors today must be loony.  So anyway, Mr. Pharma and Mrs. Psych will only make more money if them can encourage more people to use drugs, as "therapy" (never mind that there are less toxic alternatives -- that are real solutions).       So do be careful -- the men in white coats are on the way.         What I am really saying (and I am not insinuating that you would  or have) is that I am asking you to please (for all of our sakes) do not start taking psych drugs -- under any circumstances.  Why?  Well, at the very least, you wouldn't be able to write or think as well; and it is certain that your emotional tone would drop as well.  Hey, just trying to help.

Now we wait for OSA Mark to address absolutely nothing in your post.  And I, like you, will never, EVER stop speaking out against this cult.  Not until the last thug is in prison and all of those people behind the inward facing spikes of the cult's prison camp are released.

dagobarbz
dagobarbz

When you say "stop attacking my church," I have to say no. You might notice that I rarely address Scientology beliefs, except where they can cause harm. Jett Travolta, Jeremy Perkins, Linda Waliki; all were victims of Scientology beliefs. Two schizophrenics and an autistic with seizures, all unmedicated. Two killed their parents, one died on the floor of a bathroom. So yes, I will speak out about that.

I will also speak out about fraud, human rights abuses, prison camps, child labor, and the predatory pursuit of cash Scientology, Inc. indulges in.

If I were a member, I would speak out about the pressure to donate to Ideal Org funds, IAS funds, the Flag World Tour fundraiser, all the exhortations to donate to Narconon, YFHR, the Way to Happiness Foundation, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers.

At what point would I, a member, have money to spend on the courses and auditing I signed up for?

Just so you know, the Independents offer 100% unadulterated tech, not the revamped versions just recently released by Miscavige's Scientology. Ron was a micromanager, there is no way that any of his work was released without his approval. So for Miscavige to claim the older texts contained errors is simply improbable.

If you'd rather go up the Bridge than spend your days on comment boards, you might consider a visit to Ingleside, Texas.

At this point, the Independents are probably getting a more accurate version than followers of Miscavige's organization.

We're all speaking out against Scientology, Inc.'s abuses, its stupid intimidation of critics, its voracious appetite for money and slaveys.

If these abuses don't bother you, there's something wrong with your moral compass. How could you support an organization that behaves as your church does?

Mark Miglio
Mark Miglio

Dagobarbz-----  I am very happy to be on your A list.  You just made me happy.  But please stop attacking my church.  I would be a lot happier.    You are slowing the evolution that people want.  We want nice people doing nice things.  I know you must be nice underneath your baggage.  What happen to you?  You can tell me I won't make fun of you.
