He actually defended this low-life hoodlum from getting jumped by a group of guys, so where were these soo called friends of his when he needed them? • You have plenty of children sent up as adults at age 13, 14 and 15 in NYC, and statewide.  NY is one the most brutal, cruel systems when it comes to direct files and children tried as adults.  You have people in prison today in their 30's and 40's who went up as young teens.  Although this kid was tagged with a murder charge, many of the youngsters convicted as adults are there for old fashioned robbery charges.  No.  NY does not care about its kids.  You throw them in the cesspool almost immediately. This was an angry 14 year old who had been pysically assaulted by an 18 year old.  I doubt it was a mere slap - it sounds like it probably was a powerful, abusive hit, and this boy grew angry, went home and decided to man up.  I doubt he actually thought about killing the other kid - as with many young kids in this sort of situation, he probably hoped to show how tough he was and found himself on a trajectory to disaster.  It's really a manslaughter case given the boy's youth and the provocation.  I expect it will plead out that way.
