Capital New York Gains Staffers, Money; New York Loses Chris Rovzar

Press Clips has returned, or rather a short, bastardized version of Press Clips has returned, special for today. There's a fair bit of media news today, most of it involving highbrow New York news startup Capital New York. It's gaining some new staff members and also $1.7 million from an angel investor, and generally having a good day. First, non-CNY-related news:

• Daily Intel's senior editor Chris Rovzar is going over to Vanity Fair to become its digital editor, WWD reports. Rovzar will succeed Michael Hogan, who left VF in June and is now executive features editor at AOL/HuffPo. No word yet on a replacement. [WWD]
• Azi Paybarah, who is a political reporter at the Observer, is leaving for Capital New York. As was confirmed to us, so is Dana Rubinstein, a freelancer whose work has appeared in WSJ, BusinessWeek, the Observer, and Capital. And! So is Reid Pillifant, also most recently a political reporter at the Observer. It's like a blood transfusion from NYO to Capital. A Capital staffer told us that there are two more hires in the works, but they're not ready to announce them yet.

  As for job openings at NYO, they exist.

• Speaking of Capital New York: the online journalism startup, which launched last summer, has raised a windfall of $1.7 million in investments. Angel investor Adam Riggs led the funding and will sit on Capital's board, which is comprised of founders Josh Benson and Tom McGeveren, plus Curbed network founder Lockhart Steele. Riggs was until last year the CFO of Shutterstock, the company that makes depressing stock photography like these gems. McGeveran told Ad Age that the money will lead to "more articles, more aggressive reporting and more regular features, as well as some new ideas about how to present news, stories, information etc"; presumably, it's what has allowed Capital to double its editorial staff, as well. • Update 5:24 p.m.: We've just learned that Edmund Lee of Ad Age, who, funnily enough, is the author of the article we drew from above, is leaving for Bloomberg, where he'll cover media. Everyone is changing jobs today!
