Lauren Spierer Disappearance: Police to Search Indiana Landfill For Body

Lauren Spierer, the 20-year-old Indiana University student from Westchester who's been missing for 60 days, is still being sought. Except now, the FBI's focus has shifted to a dump in Terre Haute, Indiana. The agency announced that they have "reason to believe that something is in that landfill."

To recap: Spierer went missing on June 3rd, and was last seen walking home at 4:30 a.m. after a night out partying. The search for her has attracted national attention and a segment on "America's Most Wanted," but no leads have turned promising or search warrants issued, until now.

The reasoning goes that if Spierer's body was thrown into a Dumpster, it would have ended up in the landfill. Is it possible to find something that was taken to the dump two whole months ago? Apparently: the landfill manager said that "We would have the ability if someone gave us specific information to try to come as close as possible to locating that day's deposit, yes."

Meanwhile, Spierer's mother released a statement on the 60th day of her daughter's disappearance: "Two months too long. Thanks to all who continue to support us through Bloomington, at home and all those we've never met."
