Israeli Ambassador Airlifted Out of Egypt; Japanese Man Questioned About Air Force One Leak; State of Emergency Declared in Texas

Israel airlifted its ambassador out of their Cairo embassy after protesters swarmed the building, the Washington Post reports. Protests have been growing after the deaths of three Egyptian border guards who were killed by Israeli troops who say they mistook them for militants crossing from Gaza. Israeli guards were also forced out, as they were "eventually extricated at about 5 a.m. Saturday by Egyptian special forces and escorted to the airport, where they were flown back to Israel on an Israeli air force plane." A Japanese air traffic controller is being questioned after leaking classified information about Air Force One onto his blog, the New York Times reports. The employee of the Tokyo International Airport at Haneda is accused of publishing information about the president's flight path during his November visit to Asia. He is also reported to have posted routes from a drone that was charting radiation around the Fukushima area. [NYT]

President Obama has declared a state of emergency for Texas, allowing federal funds to be allocated to the wildfire-ravaged state. The White House released a statement saying, "Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster." [CNN]

Hundreds are feared dead after a ship sank off the coast of Tanzania. 600 are thought to have been aboard the M.V. Spice Islanders when it was sank, a number that is believed to be too high for the ferry. 230 people have been recovered and 45 have been confirmed dead as rescue efforts continue. [Chicago Tribune]
