A man robbed a bank on Gold Street in the Financial District on Monday, making a symbolic and probably unwitting stand against the big banks' greed and selfishness but also leaving with a bag of cold hard cash. At around 9 a.m., the suspect went inside the Sovereign Bank on Gold Street, pushed a woman out of the way, and passed the teller a note demanding money and stating that he had a gun. (Side note: whatever happened to old-fashioned bank holdups? Now all they ever do is pass notes to the teller.)

The teller complied and the man left in an unknown direction with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect is described as a black male between 25 and 35 years old, between 6'1" and 6'3" with a heavy build, dark eyes and short hair. He was wearing a white v-neck, khakis, white sneakers, carrying a brown paper bag and sporting the coup de grace: blue latex gloves, which are totally a subtle way of saying "I'm entering this bank in order to rob you."

If you know anything about this robbery, the NYPD asks that you call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477)or visit the Crime Stoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
