New Book Alleges JFK Really Didn't Want LBJ to be President

According to a new book of interviews with Jacqueline Kennedy, the former First Lady said that her husband openly doubted Lyndon Johnson's ability to be president. The interviews, which were conducted by historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr. in the year following JFK's assassination, revealed "her husband even discussed ways to prevent Johnson from winning the Democratic nomination in a future contest."

Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on Life with John F. Kennedy includes an interview where she recalls her husband saying, "Oh, God, can you ever imagine what would happen to the country if Lyndon were President?'"

Well, Jackie, let's take a look at what would happen if Lyndon became president:

• Civil Rights Act of 1964 would be passed
• Medicare and Medicaid would be established
• Gun Control Act would be signed
• American involvement would increase in the Viet Nam War
• Richard Nixon would have to run against The Hump

Quite a mixed bag, Lyndon.
