'Occupy Wall Street Journal' Surpasses Kickstarter Goal

adbusters_occupy-wall-street.jpg
Occupy Wall Street is starting to look less like an extended camping trip (kind of): It now has a mailing address, an info line, and it will soon have its own newspaper. The Occupy Wall Street Journal has surpassed its $12,000 fundraising goal on Kickstarter and looks like it might actually be a reality. Now, the protesters will have basically everything they need apart from, like, houses. The project's description:

We want to be the people's media. Our first project is The Occupy Wall Street Journal, a four-page broadsheet newspaper with an ambitious print run of 50,000. It's aimed at the general public. The idea is to explain what the protest is about and profile different people who have joined and why they joined. We will explain the issues involved and how the general assembly process operates at Liberty Plaza. It will also offer resources and ways to join. The emphasis will be on quality content, design, photography and artwork that uses incisive humor to make it a lively read.

Most people are reporting that this is the work of the Yes Men, but a Yes Men rep told us that "we are not behind it, but we are 'backing' it on our Kickstarter channel."

Jed Brandt, a communist writer, is credited on the Kickstarter as head of the Journal. We haven't yet been able to reach him for comment.

Now that the project has raised over $18,000, it looks like at least the first two issues will run. That is, if Mayor Bloomberg allows the occupation to continue.

FOR PUBLIC RELEASEFORECLOSE WALL STREET! http://www.youtube.com/watch?f...Thanks, 'AD BUSTERS', for tipping the kettle!Nestled in a narrow Catskill Mtn. valley, over 100 attended 'Occupy Together Otsego' (A local response to 'Occupy Wall Street') in Oneonta, NY last Sat. on rainy main st. Muller Park. Kind regards to The Oneonta Daily Star for announcing the rally. We gathered afterward at a local coffee shop. The population of the entire county is 62,000 (if you count the students and livestock) so this is a good show.Largest % was the Anti Frackers. Transients, like me & some students. Pea Tarties. Equal #s anti war & CIA assets/operatives (Feds always show up and insert themselves at the top of any new formation.), & some Union. We even had a few from outer space advocating voting for change, or for issues instead of candidates. Anyone that thinks they can change things by voting is too incompetent to vote. The best we can do is establish a CD "Continuation of Democracy" government with our own President like Mckinney, Born, Ventura, or Jones. The present "Continuity Of Government" is run by Cheney. It must be dismantled and the Repoopeecans and Demoncraps must be flushed down the toilet. Many of the "wealthy" have no illusion that their money is also threatened by the top 1%. If for no other reason than the contrived instability and that the ultra rich are willing to eat their own. They don't trust them. They are with us!There was a lot of speakers. Some addressed the media's insistance that this new phenomena needs "FOCUS". Yahoo blocking all "Occupy Wall Street" references is irrelevant. We are our own media but we should remain open to "Big House" inquiries.Foc them! The only reason the Establishment wants us to "focus" is so that they can "foc us".I emphasized that they should become a forest and not a tree.It is easier to kill a tree than a forest system... DIVERSIFY!A free flow of ideas, visions, missions, peeves, and creativity!I told them to archive everything & then hard copy. If the Establishment can't control this phenomenon they will employ a scorched earth strategy and shut down the internet, electricity, & poison the water and stop food delivery. We must have our own media. Become our own publishers! How much would it cost to run a 1x1 permanent institutional ad in local paper letting folks know what's up?I told them that we cannot win. I know what we are dealing with. We are dealing with a forest, a military industrial complex. But we don't have to lose! We can rise to the challange. We can raise awareness. We can face the predators. Shine light in their darkness. We can understand their strategies and meet them in every battlefield. Change their time space and force them to make mistakes and weaken their ramparts of resolve. We can evolve. The struggle defines us. The struggle refines us. We can let them know that we are alive and worth living.I said 9/11 was a inside "frack" job. Insert explosives. Detonate. Extract power. The power of fear & hate. The indictable evidence is... The same corporations that caused 9/11 are the ones fracking & poisoning our water. The US is an occupied country!I told them to explore the idea of 3rd Wave Unionism. Hold survivalist work shops!I told them to check out the Ithaca Hour Dollar. We need a new economy based on hemp, silver, and barter! We need an underground economy which is just what the government has been doing with drugs.

Poem: Occupy Wall Streethttp://jimpinto.com/writings/o...This was written on October 15, 2011 while the "Occupy Wall Street" movement was just about a month old, and still growing. Many are confused with the message. This poem may help to explain. I'll appreciate your comments and suggestions as I prepare a YouTube video.

I agree,

It's time we elect a brand new Congress and Senate. Then limit them to just two terms........just like the Presidency.  Then maybe they'll actually serve the people and not themselves.

We all need to committ to a new Congress with each election. This is how we can stop good old boy political system. This would kill the lobby system because they could not afford a payoff after every election. Both parties have not represented the people, This is the only way the people can stop this corruption. If just 10% vote this way, the majority after each election will be new people without ties with oil and Wall St.We the People need to get on the same path and control our government. Get rid of all the lawyers in the Congress. That will solve most of our problems.Occupy Wall Street is a great start.

I do agree Occupy Wall Street is a Great start, and back them 100%! Passive resistance has a chance. The Occupy concept, is spreading across the Country like "Wildfire" and I believe, the Media, can not ignor this trend.

We (Citizen's) don't have the "Bribery and Corruption" money, to payoff who ever wins the elections, and turn them into Puppets. I would estimate 90% of the Politians take the "Tax-free money" under the table, from the Zionist controlled "Federal Reserve System" This effectively nullifies who wins an election, and/or if they are newly elected. The Zionists have been buying out Politicians, forever. Ending the FED, would help slow down the lobby system, more effectively. Sad to say, the average Politician has little, if any Ethics anymore. That was an Old School concept. All they know how to do, is make fun of their opponents in the election. Hardly do we ever hear their personal platforms anymore. Our Economy is of the brink of total disaster, and all these New Politicians know how to lie more then any previous ones in our History.

Is Bloomberg STILL the mayor of New York? :s

When this thing started, I assumed that it was mostly the usual cast of extremely self-righteous professional protesters, and that was why the actual proletariat didn't care, because I'd rather be robbed blind by Goldman Sachs than herded into re-education camp by dreadlocked white boys, but the the cops have provided some serious free PR. Maybe Bloomberg is secretly a communist? Now even I'm sympathetic. If we turn our heads when the cops act like brownshirts just because the protesters are culty sectarians, we're asking for it.

I bet OWS wouldn't have raised that cash if it wasn't for the pepper spray gang, but I'd take living in a non-police state over a few large. Anyhoo, go ahead and let the dogs out Bloomy, they've already done a Lazarus on a "movement" that was stillborn, crack a few more heads and even I might join the party.

"I'd rather be robbed blind by Goldman Sachs than herded into re-education camp by dreadlocked white boys"How can you say this? What power do you have to resist the Trustafarians? All the power, just tell em to F off. What power do you have to resist Wall Street? Very little. The only power we have against them is in the form of OWS. I am bothering to respond to you because you seem smart! That's why I don't get the attitude. Why the resentment to the dreadlocks? It is the corporate media that has presented this as the OWS demographic, falsely of course. You totally called the way the protests have played into OWS' hand, as has been described here http://www.occupy-wallstreet.c... and here http://www.occupy-wallstreet.c...

You are in for some nasty karma.  Can't wait to see your face when you are defeated...lol you sad sac.

Is that because I'm saying that the cops are out of control even if I'm skeptical about the protesters? And Bloomy and the cops are turning people like me more sympathetic? And who's going to "defeat" me? My Scrabble opponent?

This is very similar to how Indymedia and the New York print project, The Indypendent, began, upon the WTO, now at Wall Street. Great work peoples. Best from Appalachia

Any subscription info yet? I've heard the Daily News feels threatened by this start up competition, is giving out pepper spray to select individuals and organizations, and has been busily buying up all the newsprint and crayons,it can.  My 2nd grader was going to make up a paper to compete at the level of the Daily News, The Daily Schmoos, but his legal adviser, Snoopy, told him it wasn't worth the counterattack by copyright infringement.Ohhhhh what a bad joke, but OOH LA LA how great OWS you are!!
