You Can Now Bet On the Quidditch World Cup

Middlebury is favored to win the World Cup.
You heard it here first, gamblers: it's coming time to place your bets on who will win the Quidditch World Cup. Yes, the Quidditch World Cup is real, don't you remember? (Muggle Quidditch, FYI.) It's coming to New York in November. And now an online betting site has set odds for six of the teams competing in tournament.

Middlebury are the favorites with a 2/1 chance of winning. ASU has 4/1 odds, while the other team's chances are drastically more slim. Middlebury, for what it's worth, is the alma mater of Quidditch Commissioner Alex Benepe, who we interviewed over the summer.

Benepe told us he only learned of the betting today and that the Quidditch league doesn't have anything to do with it. He said there are a hundred teams competing in the tournament and that the six featured on the sports betting website are the highest ranked; the rankings are based on number of wins and point differentials.

Of the betting, Benepe said "I guess that's a sign of going big-time."
