Anthony Bologna, Pepper-Spray Cop, Exiled to Staten Island

Anthony Bologna, the much maligned white-shirted NYPD Deputy Inspector who pepper-sprayed a group of women, including Chelsea Elliott and Kaylee Dedrick, as they protested with Occupy Wall Street back in September (they are each pursuing cases against him), has been transferred to Staten Island. As an admonishment for his eager trigger finger, he has also been docked 10 vacation days for failing to adhere to department standards with regard to pepper spray use.

Bologna had been assigned to Manhattan South, reports NBC New York, and the transfer to Staten Island seems no great hardship, actually, as he lives there. The Staten Island Advance says "he now reports to the borough command headquarters in New Dorp, just a few miles away from his Westerleigh home." Shorter commute, more time with the fam, it's a win-win!

Well, except for this part:

Shortly after the Sept. 24 clash with protesters, Bologna's personal information was posted on a website, and he was given extra security because of death threats and other harassing calls.

The NYPD has not commented on whether the transfer is punishment. According to Roy Richter, the president of the NYPD Captains Endowment Association, "Deputy Inspector Bologna is an experienced professional who will work hard to excel in any assignment the Commissioner directs."

Via Gothamist, Bologna said that he was actually aiming his pepper spray at some guys who were grabbing the legs of NYPD officers. But in any case, as Chelsea Elliott told us, "If anything, I would like to thank him for giving us media attention." And he (if accidentally) helped Kaylee find love! Maybe at heart Bologna's a big softie.

Regardless of that, we still think Tony Bologna is a pretty good Halloween costume this year.
