FDNY Confiscates Occupy Wall Street's Generators

The fire department and police department paid Occupy Wall Street a visit this morning and took their power generators. The FDNY says they were looking for anything that posed a fire hazard: generators, fuel, gas tanks, etc. According to reports, the materials were removed peaceably.

This isn't a complete surprise: CBS reported on Monday that the FDNY was on the lookout for potential fire hazards in the park.

The authorities arrived around 8:30 this morning at Broadway and Liberty and asked the protesters to bring them the generators and gas canisters. Five generators were taken, protesters say, including one that ran on vegetable oil.

Deputy mayor Howard Wolfson tweeted this picture of a generator with warning sign this morning:

If the protesters are to stay in the park, they need something to provide heat and power; people need to be fed, the media team has a ton of equipment that needs to be charged, and winter is fast approaching. A representative of the Comfort working group told us that "We are currently in the process of writing legislation to get funding from the GA for our three stage insulation plan for the tent city" and added that Comfort never supported gas generators in the first place.

In a prescient move on Tuesday, the General Assembly approved a $4,000 budget for new bike-powered generators, according to GA minutes. We're trying to find out if and when those will arrive.

However, Columbia j-schooler Andrew Katz just tweeted that an OWS rep told him that "As always when the police take, people give. New generators on the way."

I’m not anti-police, I’m anti-abuse of power… but the video of police violating 1st Amendment rights of the Occupy Wall St/USA supporters is more than I can take. (I’ve got history, man…)If it was up to me, I’d be storming the FOX News building. Abbie Hoffman taught me the value of a well place riot. Read the book “Violence In America” Vintage books. Every successful protest movement had a separate group that posed a threat. Hoffman told me Nixon would have never listened to the anti-war movement if the Weathermen hadn’t been threatening to blow up corporations. Since I’m too old and too tired to do anymore jail time… I’ll leave it too the youth.

The surest way for the Occupy Wall St crowd to get what it wants is to have a LONG RANGE STRATEGY! First we need to get rid of the Republican Party, this means getting out the VOTE in 2012. Don’t think of it as voting for Democrats as much as  voting against Republicans. After we kick the Republicans to the curb then we do a hostile takeover of the Democratic Party. Get the US government back to working for the PEOPLE, cyberbitchslap2.blogspot.com

WHO VOTES for these fascists without asking vital questions such as WHY are Republicans leading the charge to obstructionism, voter suppression, union busting, debtor’s prison and repealing CHILD LABOR laws? (REALLY?) These un-American mofo’s want to get rid of an American Institution, the POST OFFICE for GOD sake… NOTE: (Post office motto Inscribed on post office on 33rd St. + 8th Ave, NYC: “neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds” HERODOTUS 503 BC. These hero’s didn’t count on a destructive force known as a lame duck Republican Congress, lol)

I think what the Obama/Biden Administration is doing is genius. The way I see it, President Obama is giving the Republican monkeys enough rope to hang themselves. Eventually Conservatives are going to snap out of their cult stupor and realize Republicans aren’t representing the best interests of the American people.

Tents and generators are against the rules of the park.  But who cares about that? Exactly why are there rules and laws? I think I am going to kick over garbage cans in the middle of the street and riot.  You are not allowed to arrest me because it is my First amendment right.  This is what they did the other night.

And apparently you missed the story about threatening a reporter with being stabbed in the throat when the reporter went to ask about this story.  Yes, just one more person who really doesn't represent OWS committing crime.  Why are there so many of these "non representative" people? Hmmm...

Well, Wall St criminality is supposedly against the rule; if those rules had been enforced, you wouldn't be complaining.

Nick is shilling for the bloodsuckers. Sorry to break it to you, Nick, but the Wall $treeters already have their streetwalkers in the mainstream media and in Congress doing their bidding for them, so we don't need your wannabe witty, wannabe ironic whines on here.  Why don't you go make yourself useful and try to destroy the middle class in some other country, okay?

Thank you Barry_D! If Wall Street had followed the rules, OWS wouldn't need to exist.

Nick, you're hallucinating again. Please, set that line of Koch to the side and get help, okay?

Oh and let's not forget, rioting through the streets, two days ago, pulling garbage cans and dumpsters into the street, the attempt to stab the reporter, the thefts, the drugs, etc etc.As I said, any other group, and they would have been moved out long ago.

It's started by the same people who started the protests in Spain and the G20.  Yet that particular flash point wasn't Wall Street, it was "austerity measures" being cut, same as in Greece.

If I talk OWS out of it, and you had a group of people camping in a park, violating the park ruls, harassing the neighbors, annoying the businesses-they wouldn't have lasted there ten seconds.  First Amendment doesn't give you the right to trammel on the law and the rights of others.

I would object to anyone breaking the law.  But the answer to law breaking is to prosecute the law breakers.  The answer or solution is not to break more laws.

"OWS woudn't need to exist"- lol, lurk moar.OWS is doing nothing to address any specific Wall Street criminality. Where are there specifics? Oh that's right, non existent.  That way they can be a catch net for anyone who is unhappy with anything.

The core, though, is professional organizers who have been doing this for years in many countries, now using the economic issues as a flash point.  Google the names of some of the leaders, like Lisa Fithian, to see what I mean. Google her name and "destabilize" to find her email, tallking about the object being to destabilize the government.

They have done this elsewhere as well.  When they think they have enough people, they start calling for general strikes.  They have already started calling for this and are of course delusional in thinking they will get this.
