Occupy Wall Street Is Planning a 'Move Your Money' Out of Chase Bank Day

Following L.A. resident Kristen Christian's designation of November 5 as "Bank Transfer Day," a day in which she hopes big bank customers will transfer their funds to credit unions, there's a march sponsored by the Occupy Wall Street Labor Committee planned for October 15 at Liberty Plaza. The Facebook event page asks people to "Come Support Chase customers CLOSING their Accounts. Join the Occupy Wall Street Labor Committee MARCH to Chase Bank." The group is assembling at Liberty Plaza at 11 a.m. on Saturday, then marching to a Chase bank, where they will rally.

They list some of the reasons for their discontent with the bank as follows:

Federal taxpayers bailout money Chase received: $94.7 Billion
Chase has laid off 14,00 workers since the bailout
Chase bank uses our money to make their profits, but we don't have to let them.

This isn't the only Occupy event for the day. They write, "This march is part of an entire day of action. One other convergence point is at 1 p.m. in Washington Square Park. Others will be announced soon. All marchers, and supporters will converge on Times Square at 5 p.m."

More than 300 are currently slated to attend, via the event's Facebook page. What will they do, exactly? We've reached out to find out more, though we presume it involves taking money out of accounts, as well as protesting in general.

As for Christian's Bank Transfer Day, 26,318 are "Attending."

MOVE YOUR LOANS!

This movement about switching your money from a bank to Credit Union can be devestating for Credit Union.  Credit Unions also need to shrink themselves, take our CU for example, we need to generate more loans or fees to keep the CU operational or we need to shrink in asset size.  Since are not generating loans we need to move money out and one way is dropping our CD rates.  If more money comes in it might force us into conservacy.  I recommend people move loans from their banks to CU, moving a loan is more harmful to the banks bottom line.

-I am concern for Credit Unions

Don't forget Amalgamated Bank, the only bank run by unions (I think). It doesn't have many brnches but it's a good bank and it had a sign in one of its windows saying, We Support Occupy Wall Street. I

That's right, by the Workers United/SEIU labor union since 1923.  If you live in NYC, Las Vegas, DC, Pasadena CA, or Lyndhurst, NJ,   then you're in luck!!

Capitalism is not a form of government.   Get the money out of politics.  Capitalists are incapable of managing themselves and politicians in both parties have created such an "incestualism" of government and capitalism that they themselves believe they need to be linked.  Government is for the people, and corporations are not people.

Its an ok idea, but a louder message needs to be sent. Hit them where they will feel it. For one month, EVERY consumer/individual needs to NOT pay their creditor. Imagine the blow to Bank of America, Chase, Fifth Third, World Financial Bank, GEMB, Household, HSBC, Harris, PNC, Wells Fargo. All the banks need to be affected, they all profited from the bailout and each one of them has responded by turning their backs on customers. This is more effective as well because it doesn't involved the threat of an arrest, but it sends a message directly to the banking industry. Mess with my money and I'll mess with yours!!!!!!

Wisdom Always Prevails! We still live in the greatest country, One Nation under God!  Cheaters never win,and we will see these Big Corrupt Banks FAIL (restructured)!  Political Correctness ended on Sept 11th with “Let’s Role”!   I thank the 99%ers, and any and all who are making a statment and commitment by closing their big bank accounts.  My B of A and Chase debt cards will never be used again. Common sense will prevail.

Credit Unions - A good idea. Two other suggestions: 1.A (meaningful) mass credit card burning similar to draft card burning during the anti Vietnam era. 2. Max out on every credit card you have and then refuse to pay any of it.

Did this after I noticed Chase was charging me a monthly $6 'Inactivity Fee'. 'Inactivity fee' -- think how Orwellian that is!

Not only should they take their money out of CHASE, if you have a Chase CREDIT CARD you should stop paying on it IMMEDIATELY. They'll start to get the message when everone contributes to the cause in their own little way......That is if YOU have the balls to actually take some action and do something.

Is that 1,400 or 14,000?  Errors like this ruin the credibility of great articles.  Get it fixed!

That's from their Facebook page. It should be 14,000.

Please watch Bill Maher's very convincing video exhorting everyone to MOVE YOUR MONEY from the abusive big ("too big to fail") banks to community banks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.... He calls it "populism at its best."

You guys are a little behind the curve...

http://moveyourmoneyproject.or...

But hey, better late than never. Now you guys need to catch up with the "End the Fed" crowd. Go after the bank that the banks use. It's their enabler, Audit and eventually end the Federal Reserve System.
