State Senator Diane Savino's Facebook Friends: An Important Announcement
New York State senator Diane Savino, a Democrat representing Staten Island and Brooklyn, had some important breaking news to share with the media today. Her personal Facebook page has hit the 5,000-friend mark (a "social media milestone," it seems), which is where Facebook cuts you off. Followers have been urged to instead "like" her other page. The release:
Senator Diane J. Savino, (D-Staten Isand/ Brooklyn), announced that she is approaching a social media milestone today, with her personal Facebook page hovering around the 5,000-friend max.
She is urging new Facebook followers to instead visit and "like" her fan page. Under Facebook policy, the fan page (currently at 5,424 followers) has no cap.
Both pages will be maintained and updated simultaneously.
"Interaction with the public is a vital, and enjoyable part of the job," Senator Savino said. "Whether they like what I have to say, or just like to argue with me, I greatly value the variety of viewpoints, opinions and debates that take place in my virtual living room."
Senator Savino also encourages followers to check out the Independent Democratic Conference's Facebook page and Twitter feed.

Maybe we're just new to this, but we've never seen anyone use a press release to get new followers before. Savino now has...5,425 "likes" on her fan page, an increase of one follower since we received the release. Slowly but surely, it's working.
