This Aerial Shot of Yesterday's Occupy Wall Street March Doesn't Look Real

aerial shot OWS.jpg

That photo, with or without insipid caption, has been making the rounds on Facebook and Tumblr today. It purports to be an aerial shot of yesterday's massive Occupy Wall Street/union march. It's certainly very impressive, but don't be fooled. It's probably not real.

Here's why:

1. It looks a lot like a doctored Google Earth image. Right? Look at the area covered by the march on Google Earth and see what you think.

2. We were at the march from Foley Square to Zuccotti Park yesterday and we can say with certainty that people were not allowed to surround the cars like that. We've corroborated this with other people who were elsewhere in the march. Police had put metal barricades in the middle of the streets so that marchers had about half the street, cars the other half.

3. No evidence of the heavy police presence that was out yesterday.

If anyone can confirm that this is in fact a real non-doctored photograph, do let us know.

When the police separated the march at the beginning they made us march west before going south and back east again. We did have to surround cars like in the picture. They directed us in the opposite direction of traffic. I am speaking from first hand experience but the picture still could be fake. Even if the picture was faked I believe there were more people than that.

That is an altered Google Earth Image taken on June-2-2011 ... it was a small protest by the Advocates for Adult Literacy  ... go to Google Earth and type in City Hall Park NYC and then rotate the image 180 degrees .... such baloney from the left !!!

this guy's had a blog post up explaining it for a number of days now. it's the google earch image of the area with the crowd photoshopped in: https://sites.google.com/site/...it's really f'd up that someone felt the need to do this when the momentum OWS is building is so exiting on its own...

Google news indicates there are 1,311 sources of news story on this, go ahead, check my facts.  Yesterday's protestors in Toronto were outnumbered by the media.  There were only 30 protestors in front of the GSCO building in NJ.  Enough of this talk about the conspiracy to block news coverage.  There's' more BS passsed around by the OWS protesters and union supporters than you can shake a stick at.

First of all, people were passing this out even earlier than you're posting it, with different text. A site took the time to debunk it, comparing it with google maps, and showing where things were cloned.  https://sites.google.com/site/... I completely support the cause, and since I am no longer in NYC, I am hooking up with #occupydubuque (seriously), but things like this only make the protesters look foolish. Hope the link helps!

I've just looked this up on Google Earth on my phone. the Google Earth image is IDENTICAL (minus the crowds) right down the shape and position of the shadows.

There are some crowds on the sidewalk on the GE image that have ovbioulsy been replicated across the manipulated image. Also two taxi cabs the GE images have been cut and paster further up the street in the doctored image (but remain in the exact same position relative to each other)

Its not the protests. Those trees are far too green for October, the sun too strong, and I would bet judging from the resolution it was taken by an aeroplane out capturing data routinely at a relatively high altitude. I dont know NY at all, but if it is Park and Broadway yes it has been flipped round north to south, as the shadows are pointing the wrong way for the northern hemisphere.

Sigh, again just another lie.  One of many coming out of Occupy Wall Street.

It's doctored. It's the corner of Park and Broadway, but it's been reversed and flipped upside down for some reason. I first saw it last week being shared as an ostensible live image of people waiting for the Radiohead show to start* ETA: start last Friday.
