This week in the Voice, out today: James Hughes talks to director Walter Hill, whose early work, The Warriors, kicks off the Brooklyn Close-Up series at BAM on Halloween, followed by a screening of "his most underappreciated and airtight film," The Driver, starring Ryan O'Neal, at MOMA on November 5. Hill is set to appear at that screening and says, "I'm told there's also a similarity in the new movie Drive."

Ellis E. Conklin interviews Deadwood author Pete Dexter about his eighth novel and the terrible 1981 attack that nearly took his life.

Elsewhere in the issue, Michael Musto talks to Siggy Flicker, matchmaker on VH1's new show, Why Am I Still Single?! -- who explains how to get a date, and that it's O.K. to be single, too.

In a review of Brooklyn Heights Sicilian "bar café" Catania, Robert Sietsema talks cheesy pizza and eggplant caponata.

Lauren Shockey tries Murray Hill's the Cannibal, where "you won't find the limbs of any Homo sapiens on the table, but you will discover a wealth of other carnivorous delights."

Maura Johnston remembers 10 years of the iPod.

Johnny Depp's new movie The Rum Diary, an adaptation of the novel by Hunter S. Thompson, is deemed "oddly inoffensive" and "more of a light morning-after hangover" by J. Hoberman.
