Andrea Peyser at Zuccotti: "I'm Not as Old As I Look." (Also, "Fuck You!")

Here are words we don't usually type: we can't wait to read Andrea Peyser's next column in the New York Post! Yesterday, we had the privilege to watch Peyser in action, as we were waiting at Zuccotti Park to see when it would re-open. She ambushed a Canadian dad who was there with his six-year-old son. Peyser, the lady who is the arbitrar of all things good for parents, clearly thought it was inappropriate and "dangerous" for him to bring his child to Occupy Wall Street, and tried to goad him into admitting as such.

Then, as if in a Spike Lee movie, an Asian man got in Peyser's face about why she was harassing this Canadian tourist for bringing his son to Zuccotti. "Fuck you!" Peyser yelled at him. The Asian man started calling her an "old lady," at which point we got our camera out and Peyser replied, "I'm not as old as I look."

As for the Canadian dad, we asked him what it was like to be Peyser-ized. Turns out he didn't even mean to walk in on such chaos; he was on vacation, and he and his son were planning to bring jackets to the protestors. However, as they hadn't turned on the news in the morning, they had no idea that the park was clear. Still, as he explains below, he wouldn't have thought twice about bringing his son along, whether the Peysers of the world cursed him or not: "I think that' she's hoping the clubs and the mace are going to come out, obviously," he said, adding, "We're Canadians, and in Canada, we always bring our children to protests."

We look forward to seeing how she portrays the father and son.

Update: Peyser's column is up, and no mention of the Canadian dad! Predictably, she writes with disdain for the protestors ("scum," in Peyserspeak). Curiously, she writes about "a young woman with a pierced nose and lips -- proudly displaying a sign that said, 'F--k Bloomberg!'' " and leaves out the "u" and "c," as if she finds that word so coarse that it's unfit for printing on a sign, let alone on the sacred pages of the Post. But she showed no hesitation in hurling fuck, four letters and all, at the man questioning her ambush of the Canadian dad.

The goal of fascists like Peyser is to dehumanize these protesters, which is what Rush Limpblob did yesterday, ranting about how they were "defecating" and "urinating" everywhere, including on passersby, and screaming about them as filthy and so on. It's language that is used throughout history to tear people down so that those in power can rationalize the violence against them. It was used during the 1930s in Germany, throughout Jim Crow in this country, against the Vietnam War protesters, and it's an old, sick tactic, which is why a haggard crone like Peyser is so eager to rely on it.

Peyser is just another canine, fascist-press hack, nothing more is to be expected from these immoral scum, face it America you are under the Nazi heel, make no mistake, the U.K. is just about catching up with our latest crop of copycat cops

People like her who reflexively defend the violent suppression of dissent represent a truly debased form of humanity.  The are cowards who long to be slaves to others, rather than free people and disgust me.

Andrea Peyser's columns typically are written in a hit-and-run, fact-checking-free, anti-intellectual style.  Her column linked to in this post is no exception to that.  She wrote, for example, that after the protestors left, sanitation workers cleaned up the "disease" the protestors had left behind.  That works for Peyser and her typical reader -- perhaps -- but it is inflammatory and meaningless; sanitation workers, for example, can not documentably have been shown to have cleaned "disease" left by protestors.  That is an old and ulgy trick for demonizing somebody whose culture and/or ideas you don't like; they're dirty, they spread disease, et cetera. Peyser makes additional claims that are patently untrue, for instance, writing that rape and other crimes had become "the norm" at Zuccotti Park.  It is dishonorable, and certainly not journalism, to invent defamatory falsehoods with intent to bolster one's opinion of a matter.  Her cartoonish demonization of the protestors, moreover, along with her refusal even to reflect on what motivates them politically, says a lot more about her than about them.   Andrea Peyser is the coarse, uncultured, foul-mouthed lady mud wrestler of New York opinion columnists.

nobody is more racist, cartoonish, foul mouthed, uncultured, coarse, than liberal hollywood and the liberal media!

You're right about Hollywood, but they're hardly "liberal," they're just neoliberal entitled wealthmongers who spread their racist bourgeois neoliberal BS all over the world.

It's disgusting but they have the full backing of the US government to do it.

Their hateful upper-middle-class heteronormative white supremacist crap which ignores the vast majority of people in this country, including nearly all the middle class, working class and poor white people out, just continues to spread like toxic kudzu through minds all across the globe.

I invite you to read Paul Krugman's columns apropos of the Occupy movement, as he is identified as a leading liberal and additionally does not that I know ever in print engage in vulgarity.

I dont understand this right wing media writers...what motivates them to  write without regard to being objective to the subject they are writing about. Ok fine she has an opinion column so she has the right to come up with her own facts. But seems to me that everything they write about they see the world in a very pessimistic and dim worldview.....I guess the reason people are protesting in the park is because they have hope that something better is going to happen, I mean they're out there because obviously the situation is f**ked for lots of people. But the right wing media doesn't want to admit that. Just keep blaming the wrong person when its obvious that banks and financial institutions screwed

Well, there's freedom of the press, which means she has certain rights regardless of what she writes. But if you mean she has a moral right "to come up with her own facts" that she would not have if she were writing news articles, I disagree. I'd say she has the moral right to express her own opinion in her opinion column, but not to make things up and present them as fact.

I was hoping someone would catch me on that one....I was trying to be sarcastic. I mean if she is coming up with her own facts she  is either blatantly lying or for lack of a better word too stupid to know the real facts.

If you're going to blame a democrat blame Bill Clinton......he is the one who signed into law the Glass–Steagall Act, which was actually introduced by a Republican Senator Phil Gramm (R-Texas).
