Occupy Wall Street Vows to Shut Down Subways; NYPD Issues Plan to Mobilize 432 Headquarters Cops If Necessary

Update: Only a few hours after Graham Rayman posted this story of a leaked NYPD plan to mobilize against OWS protesters, a massive raid of Zuccotti Park began. Our reporter Rosie Gray was one of the first on the scene. Go here for her report.

Occupy Wall Street posted a notice on its website earlier today that it intends to block the subways and Foley Square, and shut down Wall Street, whatever that may mean, this Thursday. Meanwhile, the NYPD appears to be getting ready to counter a possible major push by the protesters with a new plan that would mobilize hundreds of cops assigned to headquarters.

A poster titled "Mass Non-Violent Direct Action" declares "Shut down Wall Street at 7 a.m., Occupy the Subways in the five boroughs at 3 p.m., and take Foley Square at 5 p.m." the poster depicts a reference to the 1989 Tiananmen Square uprising in China, where a man faced off against a tank.

"So far all we have done is make noise. The fighting has not begun yet," posted someone to the OWS website. "We must take control of our money and give it back to the people it was stolen from."

If it happens, that move, a lot like waving a red flag at a bull, will likely trigger an aggressive response from the NYPD. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly recently ordered creation of a headquarters mobilization plan that was seen by some as preparation for a major encounter with the OWS protests.

The plan, obtained by the Voice, orders if necessary the mobilization of hundreds of officers assigned to police headquarters. In all, 432 police officers of various ranks would be mobilized from headquarters. The NYPD conducted a test of the new system last week.

Speaking at a press conference touting the city's tourism and hotel industry, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said, ""We're not going to allow people to stop commerce and to stop people's right to go around and express themselves. No one group has the right to protest. They all have the right to protest."

"The New York Stock Exchange will open on time. People will be able to get to work, you can rest assured," he added.

IT IS ENOUGH. Disrupting all of Manhattan is above and beyond any reasonable or coherent type of protest that can and would be taken seriously. I have not been able to walk on Broadway for two months. Today I could not get to an appointment, now unruly crowds are running up and down Sixth Avenue by my house chanting and creating traffic havoc and a great deal of noise and neighborhood unrest.. WHAT THE HELL DO INNOCENT MOTORISTS AND PEDESTRIANS HAVE TO DO WITH WALL STREET.

We need to "flip" the phrase "special interest groups" the GOP keep reiterating into their political commercials and responses to questions asked by the general public. Here are some of my thoughts, I hope many of you agree...........My name is Laura Finney ( or your name), I am a constituent of District 4 in the Great State of Michigan. I am an average voter. I have many Special Interests and concerns; which include : Public Education,Job Creation, Collective bargaining, Social Security, Medicare, Housing costs, fair Taxes, Political Fairness, Health care and Health Insurance, Abortion, Equal rights for Women, Ethnic  and the Gay Community, Economic Growth, and Ecological Concerns for the environment.. I was INDOCTRINATED By the UNITED States Government To have SPECIAL Interests threw the Power of the Public School System. I was Indoctrinated to Believe in the GREATER GOOD for Society, By Our Political Leaders, and to walk in faith our Political Leaders will take our cares and concerns to Washington DC, and fight for these needs. So YES I am a Special Interest, I love my nation, my State and only hope she prospers, by the leadership of caring, compassionate, dignified Leaders of our Government. Yes I am a Special Interest, I believe it is our CIVIC Duty to leave our nation and her people in prosperity NOT desolation. I was Indoctrinated by the US Government to Believe in the Special Interest called the United States, and to protect the Constitution as our forefathers trusted us to do as citizens of this Nation. Yes I have Special Interests I am a citizen. And it is my Civic DUTY to care and have special Interests. Collectively we the special interest voters are the 99%.

The real reason they don't want to abandon Afghanistan is, because of the Exxon Mobile's pipeline pumping oil from Afghanistan. George Bush Jr. brags he went to Iraq for the oil, to show off to his affluent friends. So instead of half the national deficit, we have it double, they want to build permanent bases in Iraq and Afghanistan, so big oil, and the Republican's can get rich. So why do they want to make Afghanistan a permanent duty station so they can protect the interest's of big oil and the pipeline, before they started drilling and pumping oil out of Afghanistan, the country was considered the largest untapped oil resource in the world. They don't talk much about the pipeline now because the Billionaire's and corporations have silence everyone. I don't vote and support neither party. George Bush Jr and the Republican party wanted to control the oil infrastructure of Iraq, and Afghanistan to enrich themselves, Billions traded for the corporations, while America accumulated Trillions in national debt, not such a good trade off, but it was for 1% of the population. The people of Afghanistan live simple lives as farmers and ranchers, living off of mountain goats, and sheep's, and simple crops, too stupid to realize what they have an abundant source of natural resources that they do not benefit from, while Hamid Karzai hordes over 100 Billion in secret accounts for himself. The people of Afghanistan use horses and donkeys, and pick up trucks, as their main weapons, while military contractor's keep building new weapon system's for themselves and get richer, America goes down hill in debt. China owns 11% of the national debt, and Japan owns 10% and they are over 200% over GDP in national debt. So who owns most of the national debt Private Security Firms profiting off the national debt of the U.S.

if that's correct why wont obama open up the pipelines to Canada to increase north American production? and create thousands of us jobs? it would in turn decrease the amount of dollars heading overseas.

tar sands would only be a temporary solution to a long term problem and would have a long lasting negative impact on the U.S. and Canada...

We produce about 40% of our oil domestically and Canada already sells more oil to us than any other country.http://www.consumerenergyrepor...I think what Danny Liu is getting at is that Exxon Mobil (or any other oil company) is not primarily concerned with the welfare of the American citizen.Oil companies contribute money to both parties, though more to Republican campaigns. They make these contributions so that when they make a phone call, whoever is in charge (Democrat or Republican) is going to pick up the phone.http://www.opensecrets.org/ind...The system is rotten. The American Middle Class, the backbone of our economy, is shrinking.  Even Fox News can admit this now.http://video.foxsmallbusinessc...This is what Occupy Wall Street is protesting.A pipeline here or a pipeline there isn't going to save the economy. Occupy Wall Street might.

The OWS website says, "Throughout the five boroughs, we will gather at 16 central subway hubs and take our own stories to the trains, using the 'People's Mic'."

It does NOT say that they will shutdown the subway.

People in the subway are allowed to talk to each other.  That's all they want to do with regard to the subway.

My guess is that the writer saw "shut down Wall Street" (which it does say), and applied it (deliberately or accidentally) to ALL of the planned actions.

Your reporting is incorrect. OWS has not stated an intent to block or shut down the subways.  They have planned to travel to 16 different subway hubs in the city and "tell their stories" using the peoples mic.

Dear Mr. President,There is a very large demonstration being planned for January 20th, 2012 at the Federal Courthouse at 700 Stewart street in Seattle, - and at every Federal Courthouse in the United States.. There are many groups organizing and "gearing up" for this demonstration. I will be promoting and advertising it. This "occupy movement" has only just begun.  I suggest you figure out your plan of action and response; The rules of engagement;  -  Need a way better understanding of what is going on;  -  than during WTO in Seattle.    Treat the people like they are the enemy, and they will become it.

I am hoping that what I say makes sense to someone, and they will start writing and treating this "occupy movement" with the respect  it is going to earn. Did you see where Israel had a demonstration of 500,000 people demanding concessions from their government? It worked. Listen to Martin Luther King, his words are as meaningful today as they were then. This struggle for economic justice and government control will be won by the people! (It is very old..).

I feel the occupy movement does have a basic underlying message;  Stop  letting money decide political elections; And regulate corporate lobbying (and all lobbying) making it a public forum. Right now lobbying is mostly two old white guys sitting across from each other in an office. "They"  have probably worked with each other or went to the same school;  And "they" have promised you a job when you get out of politics, -- tripling your present salary!.  The "lobbyist" used to be a "politician", it worked for him!.  Who owns who? -  That's a "Person-hood".         I lived in the Glenn Hotel in downtown Seattle when the WTO protests happened. It happened at my front door. I was a part of it, promoting it, and involved in it. There is something going on, and I am going to be a part of it again. I have helped organize and promote protests in Bellevue, Olympia, and Seattle Washington; another big one is coming. I feel it will be a “WTO” sized protest in multiple cities.       "I" was at the WTO protests in Seattle Washington, (with thousands of "other" really awesome "people", and a few "freaks") when a bunch of "anarchists" started busting windows with crowbars. We surrounded them, and they got in a circle with their crowbars. I tried to get the "Seattle police" to come arrest "these anarchists”,  that were only fifty feet away and threatening violence and breaking windows… The "Seattle police" would not budge from their “police line”, making all of "us" the "enemy".... (There were thousands of "union" and "other" people sitting and standing in the street, - it was a relatively peaceful protest until the windows started breaking…).  " I" am not the "enemy".       I will be in Seattle at 700 Stewart street at the Federal courthouse January 20th, 2012!!!     I know we can do this better than last time. The Corporate Occupation of the United States    Our corporate controlled government (through corporate lobbying and election funding ) is out of the peoples control. People want government control back. Makes sense to me… I feel US corporate capitalism (corporatism) is a type of economic fascism: To have a corporate being where the chain of command eventually muddles all responsibility to any human being. These corporate beings are running your life, and controlling your government. (Enough to really make an individual mad and protest.) In reality, the corporate being does not exist, and when it comes to face it’s corporate responsibility, it is a piece of paper. (Or a CEO saying; “I do not recall that”, “I did not have that information”, “that was not my responsibility, I was running the company, and not just that department”,,, and on and on. It has bred a corporate culture of abuse, because they keep getting away with it..),  Corporate person-hood is plain and simply wrong:  A corporation is not a human being.  Restore capitalism to individual responsible chains of command, or this struggle will be lost. Please Sign the petition to amend the Constitution for revoking corporate personhood at:movetoamend.org(I feel January 20th, 2012: will be a bigger day in US history than WTO in Seattle.  The battle continues,  rage against the machine is real.)January 20, 2012 – Move to Amend Occupies the Courts!Move To Amend is planning bold action to mark this date — Occupy the Courts — a one day occupation on Friday January 20, 2012, of the Federal Courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States and as many of the 89 U.S. District Court Buildings as we can.  (I am inspired by Doctor Martin Luther King who said; "a true revolution of values", ...  "there comes a time when silence is betrayal".,  "people are not gonna be silenced".).   Move to Amend will lead the charge on the judiciary which created — and continues to expand — corporate personhood rights.     It's Time to GET MONEY OUT of politics Bailouts. War. Unemployment. Our government is bought, and we’re angry. Now, we’re turning our anger into positive action. By signing this petition, you are joining our campaign to get money out of politics. Our politicians won’t do this. But we will. We will become an unrelenting, massive organized wave advocating a Constitutional amendment to get money out of politics. Please sign the petition!http://www.getmoneyout.com/ https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/pe...

...................................................................................................       My friend and I put on a protest in Olympia for World Can't Wait Oct. 5, 2006 at the capitol. Here are some photos...   http://www.creativeflashes.com...       I also coordinated and promoted a protest in Bellevue when Bush was there.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hzh3O... to say both worked out without arrest, injury or property damage! I worked with the Washington State Patrol in Olympia, and Bellevue Police beforehand, and we pretty much understood the rules of engagement. Medina police were not good partners..
