Poll Shows That 56 Percent of Americans Don't Care About Occupy Wall Street

A new Gallup/USA Today poll shows that 56 percent of nearly 1000 respondents neither agree nor disagree with Occupy Wall Street. Fifty-nine percent don't know enough about the movement to have an opinion on it. To top it all off, there's been an increase in disapproval from 20 to 31 percent. The poll was conducted over this past weekend.

This doesn't necessarily mean that all those people in the 59 percent group literally have no idea what Occupy Wall Street is, though that's surely a part of it.

A straight-up media circus has developed around the protests over the last couple months, which makes it seem surprising that people don't know enough about OWS to have an opinion. But before drawing big conclusions from this, keep in mind that this is the same country where in 2006, 37 percent of respondents to a National Geographic poll couldn't find Iraq on a map and a full 50 percent couldn't locate New York. Not knowing stuff is what we're all about, and isn't the best indicator of whether or not said stuff is important.

If you got a brain in your head, you can easily see that one of the biggest messages of OWS is that when ordinary Americans break minor rules like staying in a public park paid for by their taxes later than closing, or not obeying the orders of a cop being paid by their taxes, we get beaten, sprayed with chemicals, and arrested.  No quarter given.

When 1%rs, like the criminal scumbags at Magnetar Financial (look it up), steal 100s of millions, not only do they not get beaten, sprayed with chemicals, and arrested, they get to keep every penny of their ill-gotten gains.

Bank robbers give the money back and go to jail, robber banks keep the money and go to The Hamptons.  It's too bad that a plurality of Americans don't understand that, but with the shitty, useless media we have, it's no surprise.  You see the same willful ignorance here in this thread.

Well, I blame the Occupy Wall Stree people. They don't have a clearly defined message or leaders, or list of demands. It seems that all they wanna do it to hang out in the financial district of New York and have one giant Woodstook festival [minus the great music]. It would have been more helpful had they actually told us what is it that they want.

If you didn't know what the message was, you weren't listening to begin with...  As for demands, I think OWS wanted the people "in charge" to fix the problems with our country's financial inequality.  In a republic, it isn't the job of the masses to figure out the solution,it is the job of their representatives.

the message was, according to some youtube videos: (1) white girls like to get topless and protest. (2) a white girl with an i-phone hates technology and steve jobs rich boys (3) a tranny in a mao outfit wants his/her job back----these are all real youtube protest videos.

revolution!

The Occupy movement is starting to adopt an anti-corruption platform that will garner much more respect. An Occupy member's page http://owwc.gu.ma , supporting a business owner who lost millions of dollars to a corrupt officials seems to illustrate this.
