Scientology, Indubitably: NYC Anons Make Their Fancy Raid on the 46th Street 'Org'

As advertised, last night's "fancy raid" put on by the local chapter of Project Chanology (the Anonymous wing that protests Scientology) was a sartorial riot.

About 20 young Anonymous members showed up with Snidely Whiplash mustaches (even the women!) and with interesting choices in head wear. I hope this rough video I threw together gives you some sense of it. I also went into Scientology's org itself in search of a comment about the protest. More about that after the jump.

As usual, the protesters were confined to a small area on the street across from the 46th Street church.

And, also as usual, there just happened to be a big Budget rental truck parked in front of the Scientology org, shielding it from the protest.

Still, the Anons managed to get a lot of attention from theater-goers who were walking by and wondering what was up with the funny British accents and odd clothes. Also, the netting that had covered the Scientology building for much of this year is finally down, and we saw curious Scientologists looking out at the protest from the second floor.

At some point, I went across the street and walked into the org itself. There were several people just inside, who all looked a little alarmed at my presence, and a man in a white shirt and tie immediately approached me.

Before he could say anything, I identified myself and asked if I could speak with Rev. John Carmichael, the org's president.

"You're not welcome here," said the man, whose named turned out to be John. He asked me to step outside before answering any of my questions. He asked me to stand on the sidewalk away from the front doors as he went to notify Carmichael of my request.

A few minutes later, he came back and requested my business card, saying that he would have Carmichael call me, since he wasn't at the building.

Well, so much for that. I went back to the protest, and waited around until it ended at about 7:15.

PokeAnon, who I interviewed in the video, told me that their usual tradition, after "raiding" the Scientology org, was to then go and visit the Black Hebrew Israelites, the stark raving mad morons who hold court in Times Square with their bizarre, racist rantings for the tourists. (Our Steven Thrasher provided an entertaining profile of the Israelites in March, and even went back with them to their lair.)

It turns out, the anons told me, that some of their signs aimed at Scientology also work quite well with the Black Hebrew israelites.

"Cult of Idiots" read one of those signs held by a young female Anon as she and the others stood right in front of the speechmaking Israelites and tried to bait them.

Tourists seemed intrigued as the batshit crazy Israelites tried to ignore the Anons while giving their usual crackpot racial theories.

Things got rather intense at one point, but then the Anons decided they'd had enough and decamped to a nearby Chinese restaurant.

While there, PokeAnon told me something I found pretty interesting. I had asked him about Occupy Wall Street, and as soon as those words left my mouth, I could see eyes rolling hard all around the table.

Poke explained that he and other members of Anonymous were surprised to see that some in the press were calling OWS an Anonymous operation. In fact, he said, only a few Anonymous people he knew were involved, and, "they were the ones most into conspiracy theories."

They will go to any length to avoid their members seeing protesters.  One time I went with another SP to picket one of the small hotels they own on Cleveland Ave. in downtown Clearwater.  This was not a site usually picketed; but they were up to the task.  They covered up the windows with rolls of Christmas wrapping paper, yards and yards of it.

They do that at "Big Blue" in LA; the blinds go down in seconds after enough protesters appear.

The nature of Anonymous is such that OWS is an Anonymous project just as project chanology is.

It's just that many project chanology Anonymous are not OWS Anonymous.

It's true to say the nature of the OWS project attracts the conspiracy theorists because it's to do with extreme financial injustice.

Contrary to the propaganda OWS is not anti-capitalist, although elements of those who come under its umbrella may be.

The common theme with the OWS protestors is being pissed with the massive tax payer bail outs given to people who then reward themselves financial.

These are not entrepeneurs like Bill Gates or Alan Sugar who can create jobs, these are investment bankers who moan about the risks of their jobs but how risky is it if when you foul up on a massive scale joe public is there to prop you up.

Truth is they big up their jobs with mystique because they're just glorified gamblers with other people's money and most people could do that, especially when your decision and the amount of money you can move impacts the out come. Their jobs could be off shored to china; might be a good idea since they have all the money.

The original proposal to "occupy Wall Street" went out on the chan boards, so a lot of people (myself included) first heard of it as an "Anonymous" idea, but it went viral around the net and quickly attracted all kinds of other people.

I just thought of something.  Isn't Anonymous also a religion?  Think about it: Co$ worships Hubbard, Anon worships Xenu; one worships body Thetans, another the Thetans of aliens supposedly fighting them.  One has Dianetics as gospel, the other has all the anti-Co$ stuff.

Yes, a religion--Marcabianism!  Anyone who criticizes Anons is a hate group!  Anons pay no taxes!  Anons can lie, coerce, make false medical claims because it's part of the religion!  Co$ said so.

How fun! I bet Carmichael was there but had to get permission to speak with you first :)

Well, since your visit to the Scientology new building for their new church  in Israel, to now your attempt to visit inside the NY church of Scientology, Scientology seems to know your face Tony, and be on the watch for you!   It'd be interesting if Carmichael will talk with you in person.  (Receptionists in churches each keep an updated binder of the faces of Scientology's local "enemies" and you've obviously made their Rogues Gallery photo binder there in NYC.)

Nice mustache!!

The van blocking the entrance issue, as a comparison in earlier anonymous history, in LA, Scientology hired up some  empty large stacking (2 levels high) shipping storage  containers to hide from anonymous, a couple years ago.     Photo of the two stacked high containers taken by LA citizen Doug Owens made it into Radar Online article, and within hours, Scientology hastily took down the containers in fear of more bad media.

I believe in December 2000, during the Clearwater protest, the Scientologists rented every U-Haul in three or four counties and parked them around various cult-owned buildings. One protester had a pickup truck and it was fortuitously parked in a slot in front of (if memory serves) the Sandcastle. Scientology was not happy. But we were. Partay! Good times, good times.

I think they also got a little uneasy about the shipping containers when Anons started running the ID#s of the containers through shipping company online tracking sites to see who the containers were supposed to belong to and where they were supposed to be.

Chuck, Tony has been on their radar for some time now.  I think they already have a separate book just on him, alone, lol.

Tony Ortega is the last person they'd expect in the org. OT powers must not work. Tony made it out without internally combusting.
