Scientology Watching Gets Fancy!

GuyFawkesMask.jpg
New York City's local Project Chanology brigade -- the branch of Anonymous that messes with Scientology -- has kept up its nearly four-year mission by turning protests into fun and comedic events.

In the summer, we wrote about NYC anons turning 46th Street into a beach party -- including 300 pounds of sand -- and it was a smart way to keep the beat going.

This Saturday's "raid" on Scientology's Times Square-adjacent org has a very different theme as the anons don formal wear and bring a touch of Victorian flair to the proceedings.

Calling it their "Fancy Raid on Scientology," the Anons have put out the call for the city's dandies to show up for a gay old time:

Adorn yourself with your finest garbs and prepare once again to guffaw at the boorish philistine cult of Scientology. Their improper etiquette and manners in matters medical, familial, and societal have too long gone without proper critique from distinguished persons such as ourselves. Be certain to safely secure your monocles and opera glasses and ready yourself for the most bombastic barbs as the vulgarity of one's observations shall be befitting of an organization so crass as Scientology itself.

We like the cut of their jib.

The anons will be across the street from Scientology's 46th Street org -- a little west of Times Square -- from 5 to 7 pm this Saturday.

I may attend, if I get my cravat back from the dry cleaners in time.

I love these people! Their protests are always fun and effective. I wish there were more videos. Never get enough of them from the NYC protests but I guess not being able to wear masks may have something to do with that. If so, I understand.

It would also be nice if former protester xfool4now came out of retirement, wearing his usual classic black cape and top hat, calling out to the crowds in that delicious stage voice   :

" SPEND YOUR MONEY ON BROADWAY!  NOT THE CULT OF SCIENTOLOGY! "You can find his videos here http://www.youtube.com/user/xf...

Thanks for the heads up -- I'm heading to the city on Saturday and just might drop by for the festivities - I'll be in the long opera cape and feathered mask :)

Although these critters—Mac and Tosh, the "Goofy Gophers"—are not really squirrels, I like to think of these particular rodents as being very much blood bretheren to squirrels everywhere, particularly any squirrels near Times Square this upcoming Saturday. Wouldn't want to be confused with that Occupy riff-raff, would we?

Note guest appearance by David Miscavige, all dressed up special as Marvin the Martian:

That's a great idea for a theme party-protest!

By the way, wasn't there supposed to be a Tobin/Childs article out today?

No masks! NYC anons can't wear Guy Fawkes masks (or any other kind) because of a bizarre old KKK law that prevents people in protest groups from hiding their faces in the city. Strange, but true.

I hear part 3 will be about the IAS and that it would drop today. But either my info was bad, or it got delayed. I know the SP Times was dealing with a big execution story down there yesterday.

Serious question: can I wear a Guy Fawkes mask if I'm alone? Is this just an NYC law regarding protests?

Tony, I am fairly positive that the new Tobin and Childs series is 4 parts -- Sunday and Monday the first week and Sunday and Monday the second week.  Look for the next installment on Sunday (or veeerrrry early Saturday).

AFAIK, dark glasses and wigs are still legal in NYC. In some neighborhoods, they're mandatory...

Didn't Miscavige say, "I've taken care of them?"

Hahahaha! What part of "We never forget,""Expect Us," does he not understand?

Way to go Project Chanology! Your doing a good job suppressing the "Worlds Funniest Criminals," *cough* cult.

LOLZ. Buying extra popcorn for this event.

This from an article on mask wearing in NYC:

The anti-mask law goes back to 1845, when tenant farmers used disguises (dressing up like Indians) to attack law enforcement officials, apparently. In 1965 the law was updated to prevent masked gatherings of two or more people, except in the case of masquerade parties.

So, as long as you are alone, it looks like it is okay.
