22-Year-Old Woman Punches the Crap Out of Her Subway Groper

The alleged groper
What would you do if some person came up to you as you minded your own business on the subway platform as you waited for your train and lifted your skirt, rubbed your thigh, and groped you? Would you run away, scream, call the cops, take his picture? Would you be paralyzed and do nothing? Would you punch the shit out of him?

We would like to imagine that we would do the latter, although it's hard to say. That's what Shyane DeJesus, a 22-year-old City College senior, told the New York Post she did after she was groped by a man on the morning of October 23 on the Union Square subway platform (we wrote about the groper, and the cop's search for him, on Tuesday).

After kicking him in the face, punching him, and shouting, she followed him onto the train and punched him again.

"He went on the train and sat down as if nothing happened. I was hysterical. I yelled that he just groped me. I literally started punching him in the head," she said.

No one came to her aid.

(It's possible they thought she had things under control.)

She got his photo, too, and then called the cops when she got to her job. The man, she said, just "smirked," which makes you wonder if he appreciated all the attention. Nonetheless, we have to give DeJesus massive credit for her swift response and also her diligence in fighting subway pervs. Let's call it the three-step response PPPlan: Punch, Photograph, Police.

bob, you are a asshole!!!!!!! by saying that the groper didn't do anything to harm her, means you agree with the groper that its ok to grope women.

Women used to slap guys for this kind of behavior. He didn't do anything to harm her. She shouldn't have kicked and punched him, though it appears that her blows were ineffectual. She's probably lucky he didn't punch her back. Still, no sympathy for him.

He didn't do anything to harm her????? Supposed some man grabbed your privates and then laughed at you?   Would you say he hadn't harmed or upset you?   yeah right

Waddacreep. Looks like these jackasses would be so happy to see women wearing skirts and dresses that they wouldn't do things like that. Admire and apprieciate.

I sympathize with her, but the best thing to do in these situations is take his photo and publicize the incident. He likely enjoyed getting hit by her, but he relies on anonymity to continue to do this, and he needs to receive consternation from other men because his relationship with women is likely exclusively confined to groping.

We should all feel guilty that the cop who should have been protecting her is out fighting the Drug War, arresting somebody who isn't victimizing anyone and leaving the streets and subways safe for gropers and muggers and rapists.

Ah, the joys of living on the city.... I love visiting gotham for the wide variety of miscreants, (I mean, besides the NYPD), the city offers... And the opportunities for the odd physical assault.

Around here, someone just would have run him over with their truck - men or women. Or the cops would have hunted him down and shot him... (cops are the same all over)

He got what he deserved.  Good for her.  Maybe he'll think a million times before he does that again.

Weird, my sister and I were pestered by a guy who looked very similar the guy in the photo on New Years Eve in Central Park.  He sidled up with his cap pulled down halfway over his face and felt up my sister and the girl standing next her in the crowd.  We told him get lost and he took off, about twenty minutes later I felt someone grab my arse and I turn around and see the same guy running away through the crowd.  I was so pissed off that I ran after him and grabbed him by the collar berated him, he just stood there with a smirk on his face like he was enjoying it and kept saying "happy new year".  In hindsight I regret not reporting him as he did strike me as a serial pest who would do this on a regular basis.

He got what he deserved.  There is a certain ilk of men that pull this kind of stunt because they believe they can do it without fear of repercussion.  Actually, he got off easy.

Emelio, how long have you fantasized about groping women?  Seriously, the only type of jerk that would write a response like yours is some misogynist with fantasies and a sense that he is entitled to do whatever he wants because he is a male.  And before you accuse me of being a feminist, Emelio, I'm not.  But I have a serious dislike for jerks who figure they can do whatever they want to women and get away with it.

Huh?
Huh?

The earlier Runnin' Scared post said the victim was 19 and didn't mention her striking him.

She was initially reported to be 19, and the punching came out later, in the Post article.

Could have just asked for a date.

Seriously, reverse the genders and ask if the response is reasonable.

Emelio, you are a jerk.  Anyone who gropes ANYONE is asking for a punch in the face.  I think the woman did exactly what the man deserved.  I sure hope you don't date because any woman who dates you runs the probability that she will NOT be respected.  You seem to think such behavior is okay.

Emelio, you're an asshole. Women don't grope men. Only in your sick little-dick dreams.

Depending on the size of the individuals it would be considered reasonable use of force.  Remember when Gary Coleman punched that woman in the face who literally picked him up?

Stupidest comment ever, congrats. How often do women grope men on the subway? Answer: NEVER.

Of course the response is still reasonable when you reverse the genders.  This isn't the 17th century.
